Sommer wins scooter

Keys Federal Credit Union recently announced Veronica Sommer as the winner of a new scooter. Sommer entered for a chance to win the scooter during the credit union's Feb. 25 grand opening celebration in honor of its new headquarters in Key Plaza.

Henriquez, Larson mark 20 years

First State Bank employees Lori Henriquez and Susan Larson recently celebrated their 20th anniversaries of employment with the bank.

Henriquez, a loan servicing supervisor, started in 1992 as a loan operations clerk and was subsequently promoted to her current position.

Larson is a senior vice president who joined the bank in 1992 as an assistant vice president. She has also served as controller and compliance manager.

She has degrees in business administration, accounting and English from Bellarmine College in Kentucky and the University of Texas at Arlington.

Zonta honors McMahan

The Zonta Club of Key West named Mae McMahan its February 2012 Zontian of the Month. McMahan was recognized during the club's February meeting, which also kicked off its annual Heart Health Initiative.

McMahan has been a member of Zonta since 1984. She has served as the club's president and chaired both the literacy and service committees. McMahan is currently active in the service committee as well as the group's fundraiser, Media Zonta Day, which raises scholarship funds.

Veliz appointed to advisory board

The Key West Utility Board last month appointed Greg Veliz as the District 1 representative to the Keys Energy Services Advisory Committee.

The five-member committee provides the board and utility staff with community input on various issues including power generation, distribution, finance, customer service and new ventures. Committee members also help the staff by suggesting and reviewing programs and services.

Veliz is the community services director for the city of Key West.
