IRENE SAUNDERS

Irene Saunders, 91, of Key West, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Lower Keys Medical Center. She was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Key West, Fla., to the late Raphael and Gertrude Guito. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are sons Andrew W. (Helen) Saunders and Steve A. Saunders, both of Key West; sister, Rose Hoeffer of Key West; grandchildren, Kim, Scott, Kristie, Donelle, Renatta, Robin, Christopher, Patrick, William, Nicole, Jeremy; great-grandchildren Brooks, Morgan, Monica, Nicholas, Norman, Monet, Chris, Jeremy, Rosalina, Sabrina, Andrew, Nathan, John and Jordan, Tyler, Briana, Gary, Jr., Ashley, Amber.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew W. Saunders Sr.; son Christopher Gordon Saunders.

Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea. Burial will be in Key West City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home, 418 Simonton St., Key West, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys, P.O. Box 5816, Key West, FL 33045.
