Meet the candidate
Rick Ramsay, who is running for Monroe County sheriff, will host a free meet-and-greet this week.
The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Conch Flyer Restaurant and Lounge at the Key West International Airport on South Roosevelt Boulevard.
There will be free hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Parking will be free on the departure level.
Ramsay, who has worked for the Sheriff's Office for 25 years, has been the undersheriff for eight years, serving under two different sheriffs.

Marti and Cuba celebrated
A tribute to Jose Marti and a celebration of Cuba's 1902 independence from Spain is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday at the San Carlos Institute, 516 Duval St.
Marti, Cuba's foremost patriot and poet, launched the final drive for Cuba's independence in 1892 at his beloved San Carlos, which he called "La Casa Cuba."
There will be films, music concerts, a Mass and panel discussions.

Event benefits ailing artist
A benefit Thursday will raise money for Pearl Jolly, a local glass artist who is recovering from an 18-hour surgery at Mount Sinai in New York City to remove a brain tumor.
Jolly and her husband, Eddy, cannot afford health insurance, according to a press release.
The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Smokin' Tuna Saloon, 4 Charles St., which is off Duval Street.
Local artists will donate their artwork and the band Misery Loves Company will perform.
A Wells Fargo bank account has been established under the name "The Pearl Jolly Wellness Fund."
