BIG PINE KEY — A couple accused of threatening a former tenant and his girlfriend were arrested on Wednesday on stalking charges after Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies allege they threatened to hurt them and show up at their work.

Enrique Valdes, 42, of Big Pine Key, and Omitsu Cervantes, 35, of Stock Island, were charged with misdemeanor harassment or cyberstalking.

The alleged victims notified deputies on July 26 that the male had been a tenant of Valdes and Cervantes, but later moved due to disputes over money, reports say. That tenant then moved into a different place with his girlfriend.

Sometime after that, he began receiving threatening text messages and voice messages, reports say.

At one point, the man told deputies that Valdes threw a bag full of something heavy at his vehicle while he was driving in the Rockland Key area.

He further alleged that the couple made threats, including to show up at the man’s girlfriend’s job if he didn’t pay, reports say. He and his girlfriend were also sent a series of threatening text and voice mail messages, reports say.

Deputies took out a warrant for Valdes’ and Cervantes’ arrests. Each was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island with a $5,000 bail.
