KEY LARGO — Deputies arrested a man early Wednesday morning for domestic battery in a case that started with concerned motorists notifying dispatchers of a reckless driver in Key Largo, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The 59-year-old Key Largo man was charged with felony battery of a person 65 or older.

Deputies received notice of a reckless driver near 105660 Overseas Highway and stopped her shortly thereafter, reports say. The woman in the car did not appear to be drunk, the deputy noted.

She told him that she was the victim of a domestic battery, during an argument with boyfriend who wanted to continue drinking but she did not, reports say.

The deputy noted that bruises and scratches on multiple places on her body.

He then went to the residence where the incident reportedly occurred. The man denied arguing with the woman and stated he had not touched her, reports say.

Despite his denial and citing the woman’s injuries as being consistent with her story, the deputy took the man to the Monroe County Detention Center on Plantation Key.
