Summer camps offer sports, art, music and more
Summer camp options abound in the Florida Keys. Below is a list of summer fun activities from Key West to Key Largo.

KEY WEST

• Artcamp at East Martello Museum

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 16-20; June 23-27; June 30 to July 4; July 7-11; July 14-18; July 21-25; July 28 to Aug. 1, at the East Martello Museum on South Roosevelt Boulevard. For ages 7 and up. The camps are a partnership between The Studios of Key West and Key West Art and Historical Society and include hands-on activities and art projects exploring a different subject each week, from "Bone Island's" rich history, to music and nature, to wearable art. • Just4Kids/Bahama Village Art Center Summer Fun and Arts Camp

From Mondays through Saturdays, June 9 to Aug. 9. For ages 3 to 15. Full and half-days will be offered Mondays through Saturdays. Volunteers are sought to help with the program.

• Reef Relief's Coral Camp

From 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, June 9 to Aug. 15. For ages 6 to 12. Activities include science and art projects, field trips to Fort Zachary, snorkeling, shoreline walks and museum tours. The cost is $215 per week, or $185 per week for multiple weeks.

• Key West Pottery Camp

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, June 10-13, and again from Aug. 12-15, at 929 Truman Ave. For ages 4 to 9. Cost is $250. For ages 10 to 16; from 2 to 5 p.m. Cost is $300. For information, send an email to info@keywestpottery.com, or call 305-900-8303.

• Key West Boys & Girls Club

Takes place June 9 through Aug. 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For ages 5 to 18, Activities include sports, swimming, movies, miniature golf, Camp Sawyer, bowling, dance, theater and music. Cost is $90 per week. A nonrefundable deposit for first and last weeks of $180, plus $10 membership fee, is required. A multisibling discount is available.

• Key West Community Sailing Camp

Five two-week sessions, taking place from 9 a.m. to noon (for 8 to 11-year-olds), and 1 to 4 p.m. (for 12- to 17-year-olds), from June 9-20; June 23 to July 3 (no class on July 4); July 7-18; July 21 to Aug. 1; and from Aug. 4-15. All skill levels will learn sailing and racing on a variety of boats, depending on age group. The cost is $300.

• Florida Keys Community College (FKCC) Junior Lifeguard Camp

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 23-27, and from Aug. 4-8, at the pool at Florida Keys Community College, 5901 College Road, Stock Island. For ages 11 to 14. Campers will learn the American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard Program, including swimming, rescue skills, CPR/AED certification, First Aid certification and snorkeling skills. The cost is $125 per session. Only 10 campers permitted.

• FKCC Swim Camp

From 9 a.m. to noon, Aug. 11-15, at FKCC, 5901 College Road, Stock Island. For ages 9 and older. Campers must be able to swim front crawl and back crawl for 100 yards each. Activities include improving stroke performance and confidence in the water. Only 15 campers permitted.

• FKCC Fit Camp

Nine one-week sessions, June 9 through Aug. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For ages 7 to 11. Activities include swimming, tennis, snorkeling, fitness activities, water safety, indoor and outdoor games, and arts and crafts. The cost is $160 per week, $300 for two children, or $420 for three children.

• Robin Kaplan's Camp Bravo

From noon to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, June 9-27. For ages 6 to 14. Activities include singing, dancing, acting, set design, costuming, make-up, and a final end-of-camp performance at the Waterfront Playhouse. The cost is $595, which includes a camp T-shirt. • Gymnastics Fun Camp

June 9-13; June 16-20; June 23-27; July 21-25; July 28-Aug. 1; Aug. 4-8; and Aug. 11-15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended care available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a fee. For ages 5-14. Activities include gymnastics, obstacle courses, sports games and more. The cost is $230 per week. Multiweek and member and sibling discounts are available. For information, call 305-896-2458.

• Summer Junior Golf Program

• Key West Police Explorers program

The Key West Police Explorers program is currently enrolling students for its summer academy, which runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, July 8 through 25.

The academy is open to students ages 14 and older who are entering the ninth- through 12th-grades in the coming academic year. Explorers will learn about all facets of police work, from traffic stops to crime scene investigation. They’ll get a hands-on perspective of what it takes to be a Key West police officer.

Any students interested in attending the summer session must contact Officer Deglys Chavarria at dchavarria@keywestcity.com in order to fill out the necessary application forms.

• Key West Library summer programs

The Key West library is offering a large number of free programs for kids, teens and adults this summer, beginning June 19. From toddler story time, to knitting and needlework, and everything in-between, space does not permit detailing the entire spectrum.

MIDDLE/UPPER KEYS

• Pigeon Key Marine Science Camp

Three sessions, taking place July 7-11; July 28 to Aug. 1; and Aug. 4-8. For ages 8 and up. Activities include snorkeling, reef trip, underwater obstacle course, fish identification, dissections, fishing and optional scuba certification, (for those 10 and older.) • Founders Park's Summer Recreation Camp

From 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, from June 9 to Aug. 1. For ages 6 to 12 Activities include games, arts and crafts, sports, movies, board games, swimming and beach. The cost is $75 per week for residents, and $100 per week for nonresidents. Half-day, sibling and per day rates also available.

• Swim Camp by Florida Keys Swim Club

From 9 a.m. to noon, June 16-2; June 23-27; July 7-11; July 21-25; Aug. 4-8. For ages 6 and up. Instruction includes stroke techniques, turns, starts, racing, water games, dry land activities and pizza party on Fridays. Campers bring goggles, fins, towel, water and sun block. • Summer Developmental Dive Clinic

From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Mondays through Fridays, June 16-20; June 23-27; July 7-11; July 14-18; July 21-25; July 28 to Aug. 1; Aug. 5-9; and Aug. 12-16. For ages 6 and up. Clinic includes front-water entry, back-water entry and a variety of dives under instruction of dive coach Joseph Greenwell of Jetstream Diving. Each two-day week costs $48, a three-day week costs $72, and a four- to five-day week costs $100. A swim/dive camp combo also available. • Islamorada Tennis Camp

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (ages 8 to 12) and from 9 a.m. to noon (ages 6 to 12) June 9-13; June 16-20; July 7-11; and Aug. 4-7. Full-day camp is $275 per week, or $65 per day. Half-day camps cost $140 per week, or $40 per day. Activities include beach tennis and volleyball, swimming, games, and other fitness activities, plus a pizza party on Fridays.

• Florida Bay Outfitters Summer Paddle Camp

June 9-13; June 16-20; June 23-27; July 7-11; and July 14-18. Sessions for kids and teens. Activities include introduction to paddling and paddle skills on SUP and kayak, snorkeling, Keys history and environment education. The cost is $295 per week, including snacks and a healthy lunch. • Jacobs Aquatic Center

From 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, June 9 to Aug. 15. For ages 5-12. Activities include swimming, games, arts and crafts and more. The cost is $100 per week or $30 per day.

• Seacamp on Big Pine Key

Campers learn about the ocean through activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, arts and crafts, and marine research plus much more.

Day camp is offered for campers from 10- to 13-years-old. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 23 through Aug. 15. Cost is $275 per week including lunch. Transportation is available to and from Marathon and Key West.

An 18-day co-ed residential summer camp is offered to campers aged 12 to 17, from June 24 through July 14. Cost is $4,050. SCUBA training is available at an extra cost of $450. 

A seven-day co-ed residential summer camp is offered to campers ages 12 to 17, from Aug. 3 to 9. The cost is $1,575. SCUBA training is available at an extra cost of $450. (Some restrictions apply.)
