Man badly beaten in bar fight

A 44-year-old Key West man was airlifted to a Miami hospital and a Michigan man arrested in a fight that broke out after they left the BottleCap Lounge Liquor Store last weekend.

Craig Perryman of 5600 Laurel Ave., who was to be married the next day, suffered multiple fractures to his face and head and had "air in his brain," a Lower Keys Medical Center nurse told police, reports say. After a CAT scan, he was airlifted to Baptist Hospital of Miami, according to his friend, James Flannagan.

In and out of the hospital in the five days since the incident, Perryman still suffers from pain and seizures, Flannagan said.

Zachary Kenneth Wilson, 24, of Perry, Mich., was charged with one count of felony battery and two counts of misdemeanor battery.

The fight began around 4 a.m. Friday in the parking lot near the bar, apparently between four men and a bar employee who rushed outside to stop the brawl, reports say.

When police arrived, they found Perryman on the ground, with his face and head bleeding.

"We weren't looking for trouble; we were just leaving the BottleCap around closing time," said Flannagan, who said he also was attacked. "We were in the parking lot and these two guys walk up" and said they were looking for a fight, he said.

Flannagan said neither he nor Perryman did anything to provoke the fight.

"We were kind of shocked and we said, 'Hey, this is Key West and that's not the smartest thing to do. Maybe you guys should go away.' We turned away and that's when I got knocked out cold."

Flannagan, who operates Living Dolls, a nude personal dance club on Fleming Street, said he often works nights and "knows trouble and how to avoid it."

When Flannagan regained consciousness, he said one of the men was "beating the piss out of Craig."

"One guy was doing everything," Flannagan said. "He was bragging about being a street fighter. The other guy was just standing there."

One man was armed with a rock and a plastic pipe, according to a police report, but it's unclear who that was or how either might have been used in the incident.

When a bar worker, Jason Walck, ran outside to help, Wilson allegedly grabbed him by the neck and hit him in the face with his knee, knocking him out, reports say. Walck allegedly had grabbed the pipe and thrown it across the street before he was knocked out. Wounds to his face reportedly required stitches.

Perryman reportedly told police that before he was knocked out, he saw one man hit Flannagan in the head with a rock. Perryman remembers regaining consciousness only to be knocked out again, reports say.

"Craig got the worst of it. His nose was broke in two places, his eye is swollen shut and he was in a lot of pain," Flannagan said. "I've been working on the streets at night for two years now and I've seen a lot of crazy stuff go on, but this was just crazy. What was crazy was it happened to us."

Flannagan added, "We're not street thugs; we weren't out looking for trouble. Anyone who knows us will tell you that."

Wilson was released from the Monroe County jail on Stock Island on Tuesday on $50,000 bond. His next court appearance has yet to be scheduled.

Wilson you are a fake street fighter!

A real fighter will fight someone bigger and stronger. You are just a little punk! Bring that stuff to Marathon, PLEASE!!

thugs??? SCUMBAG THIEVES

actually these dirtbags snatched a rolex daytona off my wrist and thats what started the fight. i only hit each of them once and the barback was tryin to jump me too. just so happens im trained and they're not...scumbags

This guy should have

been given a much larger bond OR I think the Judge should just let us citizens kick his arse and be done with it. He should be charge with attempted murder.

I was there

and it was wilson carrying the 6 to 8 ft pvc and had 2 coral rocks in his pocket they were laughing and talking when he went berserk and that is a deadly weapon (but his mommy has money so i am sure it will be easy to have it dropped to nothing)

I completely agree he should

I completely agree he should be charged with attempted murder and not allowed to leave the state.

fight

elect him to public office.he will fit in with the rest of the thugs and thieves.

ahahaha...

Maybe this is a good reason not to leave clubs at 4am.

Not leave till 4 A.M.?

What about the good employees who have to work till 4 a.m.? Don't you think they deserve some protection?

I totally agree!

He should be charged with attempted murder.

Karma

Maybe the assailant is a FATHER of one of your exploited "living dolls" This Mr. Flannigan is an outright scumbag that makes his living literally on the back of young girls, mostly Czeck and Russian illegals who have no options. I don't think this beating squares you with the house Mr. Flannigan, at least I hope not.

Well if he is

the father that is no reason to take the law into his own hands and those girls must be young since he just turned 24 a couple months ago

Larger Bond

I agree. This appears to have been an extremely violent attack. What kind of sicko takes pleasure in something so violent? Attempted murder sounds more like it. The guy is only 24--he'll kill somebody someday.

Punk

Old smitty will cure this punk...send up here we can help him out. (S&W)

get real and some help

....you and "smitty" are of the same mentality as the guy who started the fight..you need some help too....

Agree...he's from Michigan, for heavens sake

So - he can get lost easily. And what about his companion? What happened to him?

Such bull crap... $50,000

Such bull crap... $50,000 bond.. get real... SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT HIGHER...

I agree that it should be

I agree that it should be attempted murder. I see it all the time. out of towners cant hold their booze and want to fight. Go back to Michigan and fight.

Is this enough?

Bond should be higher than medical cost!

little zachary, Perhaps you

little zachary, Perhaps you should explore your reasons for being so violent. Childhood trama, or perhaps closeted desires that need to come out. Take care of your issues and start kissing the guys you want to beat up... good luck with that. If you think your so tough maybe next time travel to Compton California or Juarez Mexico to start your "street fight".

true

the helecopter ride to miami is at least 15-20000$ and im sure there are other medical bills besides the ride
