Inmate left brain dead

Clayton Link, 26, sold pot. He may pay for his crime with his life.

Link lies in a coma in a Miami hospital after being pulled from a bathtub in the sick bay at the Stock Island jail after his recent arrest.

His father, lifelong Key Largo resident Brown Link, said the family is gathering, as they anticipate the possibility of having to pull the plug on his only child, ending a life that is no longer a life.

Link is 98 percent brain dead.

"The only thing getting us through this is our faith," Link said from his Harry Harris park home, the same one a Monroe County Sheriff's Office Swat Team raided on June 17 to find a couple of pounds of marijuana, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia. The younger Link cooperated by giving deputies the key to a safe and led them to other places in the homes where they found drugs, reports say.

Link was charged with a felony narcotics crime and a misdemeanor drug crime. His father was charged with a misdemeanor drug crime.

After booking, Link was taken to the sick bay because he was throwing up, and had "requested a bath to clean himself up," reports say. "The officer in the unit heard water running for longer than she felt necessary and opened the door to check on him. The officer found Link submerged in the water."

The Citizen should be ashamed

What a great way to start off a story about a man who lies brain dead in Miami due to the negligence of the Stock Island Jail staff. Starting the story by stating that "he sold pot and he may pay for his crimes with his life" is totally insensitive to the family members of this VICTIM. I don't even know the guy, but I know that I would be outraged if I were related to him. You give more respect to the scumbags who steal from our childrens education and this poor fellow probably provided pot to plenty of them and their relatives. My condolences to the family of Mr. Link, my prayers are with you.

headline

I must add to my last post reply that you should change the headline. Calling him an "inmate"????

Please consider an apology

I do have to agree this was a more than a bit callous, and unlike what I normally think of the Citizen - especially since you are insistent upon (albeit, properly), putting "allegedly" in front of everything the bloggers write about the Acevedos, yet you failed to have compassion and the editorial wherewithal to place "allegedly" in front of your own own statement about an unproven crime. This is made even more sad by the fact that a local radio station inappropriately announced his premature death on the radio. While the announcer did appropriately profusely apologize, a fact check and interview with the family should have been in order. I don't know this family or this young man, nor have I ever been in their position, however, I am sorry for their pain and a more sensitive story should have been written. I am sure there is more to this young man than the first line would imply. Put yourself in his family's shoes. It's not that far fetched. Perhaps a written apology would be in order.

Amen

Well stated. My sympathies to the Link family also. I was outraged (and expressed so to the first article) that Mr. Link was left unattended in a sick bay tub. I am saddened to hear he is not likely to recover.

Goofed?

Is this really the Link's only child? Not really! Very sad situation and so young. Oil and water don't mix and neither does drugs and Faith. They need to clean up then their faith will work...

NEGLIGENCE

Your liberal brain is a terrible thing to waste. The negligence in this case is limited to that of this so called "victim".

You are spot on

This man deserved his day in court. The Sheriff's Office is culpable for a wrongful death suit and I will contribute to the cause. This family deserves better than what they have received from their loved ones incarceration.

I agree with you 100%!!!!

I agree with you 100%!!!!

I'll have to agree with the

I'll have to agree with the previous statement. you should be ashamed of yourselves for the comments on his past crimes. Come on guys we are talking about someones life here regardless of his past do you not think he deserves some respect? I wish it was someone close to you then we will see how you feel!!!!
