Marrone houseboat sinks in marina

A houseboat at Garrison Bight Marina has partially sunk and is resting against a neighboring houseboat.

City of Key West marina officials were notified about 5 a.m. Tuesday that the houseboat, owned by Dante Marrone, was sinking.

The same houseboat partially sank about a year ago and had to be raised by marina workers. The marina demanded Marrone have his boat bottom surveyed and the proper work done to keep it from sinking again, Marina Manager Mark Tait said. Tait could not confirm whether the proper work had been done.

This is the second houseboat owned by the Marrone family that has sunk at the Garrison Bight Marina docks. A houseboat belonging to his father, Mickey Marrone, was damaged and partially sunk during Hurricane Dennis in 2005. The houseboat eventually was towed behind Hilton Haven, where it suspiciously caught fire and burned to the water line.
