What's open, closed Friday

Though city, county, state and most federal offices will be closed Friday, July 3, it will be business as usual for trash and recycle pickup over the Fourth of July holiday, says Key West spokeswoman Alyson Crean, citing Greg Sullivan of Waste Management. Regular mail delivery services will be available and the Key West Post Office will be open its regular hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be no postal delivery or office hours on Saturday.

In these fiscally deficient times, if a holiday falls on

a Saturday or Sunday, these public employees should not be paid for a day off on Friday. They should work. That's the way it often is in private industry. No one necessarily should automatically get holidays off just because they don't occur on their regular work day.

shut up

jealous...

Another Bully feeding at the Public Trough, huh? Its time the

taxpayers got angry at those who work for us like the person above who simply said "shut up". I just ran errands today and saw REAL hardworking Americans at work. UPS, Fedex, Retailers, Pharmacists, Doctors, Garden maintenance people, service and support industry people, business owners and their employees - all working hard for their living as it should be. But then again, they are working for companies that are running in the black and are NOT running huge deficits. They're working for smart employers who know how to manage the bottom line and be profitable. I agree that it is time that government began to follow private industry's model when it comes to efficiency and accountability.

Nope . I won't shut up. I'm a taxpayer. And if a government

worker tells me to shut up to my face, I can promise they'll be looking at unemployment in short order. That's the problem with our government employees now. They feel entitled to the extras and will even steal, thinking it's their right. They don't realize that they have many thousands of bosses and feel entitled to waddle about, taking long lunches, or having big office 'covered dish' lunches while customers wait at the counters. They do not return phone calls, make huge mistakes and never correct them unless one has to go over their heads - you know, things that city Revenue Department people, County Tax Collector people and similar employees do.

It's just making sense when people with the city and county and other government offices have lost jobs, why do the remaining still live fat? They're lucky to have jobs and should be working and providing services for the money they're paid, not getting extra days off. If government were run like private industry, we'd have no school board mess. The cause of the mess would have been fired years ago for not doing their job. It's the luck of the calendar - if a holiday is on a weekend or their normal day off, they're still getting their holiday. They shouldn't get an extra day just because it falls on a weekend. Stop the graft, thievery and fat cat ways and we might start to overcome the lazy government we have now.

Not if they work for the School Board

They will most likely get a raise and the others school board employees will cheer for them.

Yep
