When the Underwater Music Festival pulls its speakers from the water at 2 p.m. on July 11, the party will just be starting at nearby Picnic Island.
There will be music, but of the live and above water variety. Once the radio broadcast ends, Wetstock 5 will kick off.
Local band Moondogs will be rocking out above the waves for the masses that turn up at the offshore party island every weekend.
Throughout the years, Picnic Island has always been somewhat of a locals destination. The shallow waters surrounding the island make it a popular gathering for boats, equipped with everything from stereos to onboard grills. Picnic Island is one of several such gathering places throughout the Keys where boaters congregate to form somewhat of an impromptu party scene miles away from civilization.
Wetstock brings the event to another level by putting together a couple of pontoon boats to form a stage for the Moondogs to perform on, instruments and all. Organizers say they expect more than 2,000 people to turn up for the unique event.
This is the fifth time the event has been put together, and it will feature giveaways from mobile phone company MetroPCS.
The music will be played from 2 until 6 p.m. The event is free to attend.
