No surprises in census update

Monroe County continues to lose population

Why is it always the government fault? My family is here for a couple of years and before moving here I thought that this would be a nice place to retire to. Then I arrived here and started dealing with the rude, crazy, uneducated locals. Now, even if you gave me a house and free utilities I would not retire in this dump. Get a grip on reality! People are leaving because they can't take the chaos, stupidness, crappy school system, lack of qualified medical care, and the non-existent customer service anymore. If the "Keys" want to remain a desirable tourist destination they need to get a little ":Welcome, we're glad you're here," spirit.

The bottom line is that for years Monroe County residents have been getting a free pass, without paying the real cost of maintaining the infrastructure they enjoy. Now that infrastructure is crumbling and it is time to pay the cost if we do not want to continue to live here and enjoy the services that we've grown accustomed to.

What happened to all those "impact fees" ?

What happened to all those impact fees that the county, city, FKAA, City Electric charged developers in the last 25 years. They weren't put in a fund to upgrade and repair our infrastructure with the increased development. These funds just vanished, and now with the tight economy, they are all crying poor. They come back to the hard working people of this county with increased fees and services. They ask the feds for handouts. The Monroe County residents have never had a free pass, the developers got what ever they wanted from the City and county government. Now the tax payers have to pick up the pieces after all these developments go bankrupt.These bankrupt developments are not paying taxes, the poor working class people of this county will have to make up the difference.

It's not the residents, it's the County Commissioners who have wasted our tax dollars. Instead of putting in sewers, they've built parks and Government buildings. Instead of repairing roads and bridges and infrastructure, they've grown the local government infrastructure. Fire them all and elect a few accountants next time around!

know that people are leaving! Maybe they will realiize that not only have property values gone down but so have salaries, now is the time to cut back and lower taxes so those who are still staying can afford it! When obamas socialists tax reforms hit then all will feel how it is to be financially ruined by greedy big Goverment!

Obviously the years of GWB and his version of "smaller government" didn't help so please, pay attention to what's going on in the world instead of focusing only on your hate of Obama. Besides the point though, the federal government doesn't have anything to do with local government policies.

What is happening is that our president is trying to go beyond social welfare programs he is trying to CHANGE our way of life. Using programs such as Medicare and Social Security is not a good example of socialism active in our society. What your man Obama is doing is effect a no violent revolution from our capitalist system to a socialistic economy. His current attempts are seriously aggressive and will not only effect radical change but will cause catastropic failure of our free economy system. Hence when this all happens Obama will then logicaly blame Bush and capitalism. A free market economy can not be effective with socialist restraints. You my defender of Marxism will find out your free and easy life style will change.
