Lt. L.G. Hamilton, commanding officer of Coast Guard Base Key West, was relieved by his executive officer until his permanent replacement was to arrive in September.
Mary Christoff arrived in Key West after a 2,744-mile trip from Crested Butte, Colo., on her scooter.
The schooner A.M. Adams arrived from Mexico with a cargo of 400 green turtles.
The Miami Conch Club was formed by 103 former Key Westers living in Miami.

Army and Navy units, plus the 9th U.S. Artillery band, led the Fourth of July parade. The procession ended at the new Harris High School on Southard Street, which was then dedicated.
