Acevedo hit with 2 new charges

Monique Acevedo's two sons, along with two school district colleagues, helped her move allegedly ill-gotten items she's accused of stealing, says Thursday's arrest warrant for the former head of the Adult Education Department.

Acevedo turned herself in Thursday at the Monroe County Detention Center for her third arrest and was booked and released.

I completely agree about the kids...It was Mo and Randy's job to consider how their actions would affect their children...that is not the judges job, his job is to sentence them based on their actions. Its not fair to suggest that someone with children would get more leniency on a sentence then someone without children. And in theory, the crimes they committed, in essence of their children and all the school children...show a much lower moral code then somebody who did not have children of their own to think about

The crimes these two self-centered jerks [allegedly] committed are against not only ALL of the school children, but also against ALL of the tax-payers in the ENTIRE COUNTY!! There is an election on and the Citizen leaves out the fact that at Randy Acevedo's sentencing Mcpherson referred to him as his "role model." A felon as a role model that gets me to thinking. How has Morgan been emulating his role model. The personal finances of the Mcphersons and their "church" need to be looked into. It is the duty of journalists to investigate things like this, but private citizens can also do it and go public.

(LOSER!) and I guess he knew nothing about his kids moving stuff at midnight (RIGHT!) so he lied in court and still got a slap on the wrist. Like everyone says I guess it's who you know in this town. It seems that if you post a comment critical of the Citizen's lack of accuracy in reporting, it doesn't get published.

Example 1: The Citizen reported that Morgan McPherson is a business owner in Key West. Wrong!

Example 2: The Citizen reported that Acevado was fine $150,000. Wrong again!

When is the Citizen going to print corrections to its inaccurate reporting? When is the Citizen going to print criticism of the Citizen?

lost it by now. He supposedly is a realtor but never sold a property. Supposedly he's a preacher but he's not got a church. He makes $10,000 a year (plus all he can eat on the city's dime), his wife is a teacher, he has four kids and some idiot loaned him over $1.5 in mortgages which he miraculously paid for some time, til they went into foreclosure. Coincidence: Foreclosure occurred about the time his good developer buddies such as cay Clubs went under, and about the time his other good developer buddies Cortex/Keys Caribbean started their downward spiral. Interesting coincidence, no? Can someone answer this question for me: Is it illegal for city officials to take money under the table from developers and special interests?

Almost unbelievable, huh? Can't imagine a preacher being involved in anything so unsavory.It would be so dishonest. What is the monthly on $1.5 mil. in mortgages? Plus insurance cvrg. and taxes on all? I can barely cover all on my tiny hovel with twice that income.No eatin' out and drinkin' for me... He's just amazing, I guess. Now that it has been determined (alledgedly) that the "poor kids" of Randy & Monique's were more than likely involved in the coverup of there parents alledged felonies what type of moral compass do the parents have? You will also still have those folks with blinders on saying that Randy knew nothing, what a crock of crap. One of Rotary's finest, does this pass the famous 4-way test? I'll also go out on a limb and say that more of the same type crap will come out if Monique is crazy enough not to plea bargain and this does indeed go to trial. One would assume that the friend and subordinate on Big Pine who helped stash the loot, and Monique and Randy's kids, who helped move it, would be up on some charges, no? If they don't face charges, let's give the SA's office benefit of the doubt and assume they are cooperating to help make an airtight case. And what about conspiracy? Since she's charged with conspiracy, she had to have been conspiring WITH someone who'll also be charged, right? And if the woman on Big Pine is still employed by us, one must ask WHY. I suspect there's another shoe to drop -- maybe a whole closet full of shoes -- designer shoes, no doubt -- that WE paid for. We're paying for her prosecution, her defense, and any bets on who'll foot the tab for her treatment if (note I said IF) she's let off because "she just needs help"?

I couldn't have said it better myself (& oh my I am a Conch too!). How can Ed Swift manages to pull some $$$$ money out of his BLEEP and hire Randy when the hard working employees of HTA lost their bonuses and family benefits? As if that isn’t bad enough he sends out letters to all employees ‘begging’ them to write into the court about what a great and upstanding citizen Randy is… PLEASE!!!! Steeling is steeling & covering it up is covering it up! Oh, and please quit using the Acevedo's kids as an excuse not to punish the parents. If their kid’s best interest had been a priority they wouldn't have broken the law in the 1st place.

The City hasn't even finished paying him the last million dollar settlement from the Duck Tours fiasco and now they are ready to start again by denying competion to the Conch Train. Understand this. They have a point system for sentencing guidelines. Randy scored out at 19 points. Prison is not mandatory until the point score reaches 44. First time non-violent offenders are almost always offered probation. Randy's sentence is completely normal. And if you have to be a hater, console yourself with this. Now they can pound Randy's wife with a jail sentence. He's home with the kids.

Randy sentence would of been normal if he would of pled out not taking it to trial and lose.I know people who are first non violent offender who took a misdemeanor to trial and got found guilty and got 6 months in jail. It's at the judges discretion to impose the sentence doesn't have to go by the guidelines why u think the state asked for 2 years prison they know usually when u go to trial and lose u go to prison. The judge usually sentences the defendant close to what state reccomends but not this time 2 years prison the state asked and the judges gives him probation getting him what first time non violent offenders who pled out.trust me if people knew they only get probation if they took it to trial they would be non stop trials in that coutuouse. I think all first time non violent offenders should take their case to trial what can they lose especialy in front of Jones all they gonna get is probation yea right

My comment about having some respect also holds true for Judge Audlin, and any Judge. The inital negative comment I responded was addressed specifically to Judge Jones. I see the ignorant attacks now also include Judge Audlin, who had very little to do with this case as I recall except in setting initial bail (under lesser charges for someone not likely a flight risk, not a risk to be violent, and a first offender). Are you insane people going to set up the gallows and hang everyone and declare them a witch! Focus on your work and your life! Let the system take it from here. I liked it better when reporters reported the news, not the blood thirsty ignoramous. I think I'll go back to reading the hard copy.

Monique was hiding in North Carolina and had a warrant out for her arrest because she didn't turn herself in as she promised she would. I'm amazed to this day that she hasn't fled. She must know the fix is in and that she's going to get off with a slap on the risk or she'd be in Costa Rica right now. She keeps changing her appearance. I remember Scott Peterson was said to be guilty even before his trial just because he had dyed his hair.
