Moore holding up his end in college football

Terrance Moore is doing quite well as Key West High School's only graduate playing collegiate football.

Although he's listed as a wide receiver, Moore, a 6-2, 170-pound junior, is producing in several ways for the University of California of Pennsylvania, a Division II powerhouse which was 4-2 on the season going into Saturday night's game at winless Lock Haven.

In the previous three games, Moore, a transfer from Mesa Community College, had scored five touchdowns on 13 receptions for 230 yards. He also passed for a 32-yard touchdown last Saturday, has rushed twice on reverses for 27 yards and returned four kickoffs for almost 100 yards. For the season, he has caught 20 passes for 321 yards and five TDs.

After winning its fourth straight, the Vulcans were ranked seventh in the initial NCAA Division II Super Regional One rankings.

Each fall, Judd Wise, the Key West coach and former athletic director, provides me with a list of Conch athletes who have gone on to play sports in colleges or pros.

From soccer, he lists Jesse Kehoe, playing professionally in England; Alex Yanovych, Florida Atlantic University; Brooks Saunders (soccer and lacrosse), Elmira College, and Kara Haack, and Krizzie Mendez, Embry Riddle.

Sarah Smith is listed as still playing professional beach volleyball.

Luke Knight is swimming for University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Ralph Major is in his second year wrestling at Pratt Community College. In track, R.J. Anderson is at Florida and Marcus Bolden at Florida A&M. Lamar Moore is playing basketball in the Russian pro league.

Ashley Henriquez is cheerleading at Florida State, while Emmy Meyer is doing likewise at the University of Miami.

Baseball players and officials, of course, monopolize Wise's list.

Freshmen Frankie Ratcliff is at Miami; Drew Rivera and Andrew Rodriguez at St. Thomas and Nick Bertiaux at Brevard College.

Louie Pazo is a sophomore at Broward College and Raiko Alfonso at Florida International. Danny Foltz is a junior at the University of Tampa.

Ezra Josephson is in his senior at Dartmouth, while Chaz Spottswood is finishing up at Florida.

Gary Hersey is at Newberry College, while Daniel Hersey is coaching at Central Florida Community College.

Pro players include Khalil Greene of the St. Louis Cardinals, Reidier Gonzalez of the Toronto organization, Blayne Weller of the Minnesota organization, Ben Harrison of the Florida Marlins farm system, Bobby Hernandez of the Los Angeles Dodgers minor leagues and Ralphie Henriquez of the New York Mets farm system.

In the front offices are Billy Wardlow, Toronto Blue Jays, minor league equipment coordinator; Oneiri Fleita, Chicago Cubs, vice president of player personnel, and Richie Garcia, Major League Baseball umpire supervisor.

Did Judd (or I) leave anyone out? If you believe so, please e-mail or call me at the addresses below.

Also, if anyone has a similar list from our other Keys schools, I'd be happy to print that information, too.
