


FKAA recognizes longtime employees
The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority recently recognized several employees for their years of service.
Kathy Gartenmayer Rieck was honored for 30 years. As a billing specialist, Rieck is responsible for reviewing and processing customer's bills and responding to customer inquiries as needed. She was commended for her outstanding service, excellent attitude and positive relationship with her co-workers.
Carla Southcott, a records data entry clerk, marked 25 years. She is responsible for scanning records, categorizing them and maintaining the files for water customers and other agency documents. Southcott was recognized for her outstanding attendance, attention to detail and willingness to help co-workers as needed.
Brian Rodriguez, valve/hydrant mechanic, was honored for 20 years. He is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various equipment used in the operation of the water system. In recent years, Rodriguez has competed in the annual American Water Works Association Meter Madness Contest in which utility employees demonstrate their skill, speed and accuracy to assemble a water meter. After winning the state titles, he has gone on to compete on a national level placing in the top of the nation. Rodriguez was praised for his quality work and his commitment to serve as a role model for his co-workers.
Miguel Ramas, facilities maintenance mechanic, and Shaun Niles, distribution system operator, were recognized for 15 years. Ramas is responsible for the maintenance of equipment and plant facilities in the Lower Keys. He was praised for the quality of his work product, willingness to help wherever needed and excellent work relations with co-workers. He has achieved the highest skill level in his field and is a valuable asset to the utility, the company said.
Niles is responsible for maintaining the water system, including repairs to leaking or broken water mains. The board acknowledged his dedicated service, his skill and his proven record of working well with customers and his co-workers. Niles is known locally for his coaching skills in youth sports.
Rosa Pujol, billing specialist, marked 10 years. She is responsible for processing bills and assisting in billing inquiries. Pujol was complimented on her dedicated service and attention to detail.
Lastly, the utility recognized Reverse Osmosis Plant Operator Randall Hines as he retires with six years of service. Hines has been responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Reverse Osmosis Plant and its equipment.
During his tenure, he has assisted in training other employees as they accrue hours necessary to become licensed. The utility said he is a hard worker, a dedicated employee and is known for his considerate attitude to his co-workers.
