DUI suspect accused of causing $20K in damage

An allegedly intoxicated man played bumper cars on Frances and then Southard streets about 5:15 p.m. Monday, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage to property in his path, police said.

Kenneth Scott McKiel was charged with four misdemeanors: hit and run, DUI with property damage, refusing to submit to DUI tests and driving while his license was either suspended, canceled or revoked.

The 35-year-old self-employed carpenter who lives on Elizabeth Street, according to arrest records, was booked into the Monroe County jail on Stock Island without bond.

McKiel crashed a black Honda Accord into several parked cars, a scooter, a street sign, a bicycle rack at Cafe Sole and other property before he hit a fence at 1013 Southard St., according to police and witnesses.

He fled on foot to Grinnell Street, only to be detained by citizens who saw the crash.

A female passenger remained at the scene. It was unknown late Monday whether she would face any charges.

Only in Key West,

could we have the Lost Weekend on Caroline. (Open til 4 am!) Got to give props for honest advertising, huh? Think maybe he just lost a lot of weekends... Party on, Kenneth. And the rest of you pathetic drunken fools. When will you ever learn? It took me till 30. A lost decade as an adult. If you haven't figured it out by 40, you are pretty surely doomed to a miserable ending to a miserable life. Get help.If you want to just help yourself, for now, look at all the misery in the mugshots.Do you really want to show up there, with your life essentially ruined? There is precious little sympathy for those folks these days. There is life after booze, quite a wonderful one, in fact.At least consider it. The truth will set you free.

drop charges/set him free!

this guy could have killed someone and he will be set free. i dont understand. our government has no problem sending people to prison for the victinless "crime" of possessing a small amount of drugs. but when it comes to child molesters and reckless drivers that are a direct threat to public safety, are set free!???

nice sleeve on officer

Nothing says I am a professional law enforcement officer more then a full sleeve tattoo.

Yes! More BARS!!

A victim of the construction downturn no doubt. $20,000 plus lawyer, court and probation fee's and certainly a revocation, so no driving his tools to any job site, if he can find one. "Self-employed" my arse, illegal is more like it. Building Dept will be watching him now for sure. Least he can save some money rebuilding some of what he broke, if he hasn't pawned all his tools already. Should take a felony rap, then he can rehab in prison for over a year and come out clean and move out of Key West where it's so expensive. He's going to disappear if he's released and most likely cause a death elsewhere. People are going to sue his arse for sure, he's going to disappear. I don't like people who can't handle their alcohol, it's a problem for everyone who can. Perhaps Obama or Nancy Pelosi or Barney Frank can do something "socialist" to pay his bills through taxing our paychecks in new and innovative ways.

This town needs more bars ..

All this excitement and it was not even payday! I suppose this incident sums up whether this is a bike friendly town, or not. Reduce the bars or put the bike lanes as part of wider sidewalks. Well, maybe even a side walk was not safe in this case, but at least you have parked cars between you and drunks.

"allegedly"???

I think we can safely assume "allegedly intoxicated" does not apply

DUI

Let me guess. This dirtbag doesn't have insurance either.

even if he had insurance

they dont pay when your DRUNK.sound simple you have to read the fine print.right where you put your initials.sounds like another bankruptcy hearing is more like it.he has carpentry skills maybe he can make prison furniture for monique.

City buses need to stop at bars

This town has a disappointing record of DUI's among it's citizens, why this acceptable and commonplace is beyond me. The buses need to stop and pickup at bars. And the bar pay the fare. It would be extremely intresting to see which bar sends out the most DUI drivers. It could be part of the "battle of the bars."

The mugshots tell a tragic story,

if your willing to read it. Those people, many who don't even realize they are being flushed down the toilet of life, range in age from 18 to 80. Think of the pain and tragedy (and cost)someone has inflicted on themselves, thier friends and family, and our entire civilization to even survive to that age. The cost is incalcuable. But huge. Please, please help anyone you know with a drinking 'problem' get help. The slogans on the t-shirts just aren't so funny anymore, are they? Peace.
