


Members of the Coral Shores and Key West High swim teams qualified to swim in the Region 4-1A meet today hosted by University School at Nova Southeastern University in Davie.
The Hurricanes have the biggest contingency of swimmers that qualified for regionals last week at the District 12-1A meet.
For the Coral Shores girls' team, Taelor Cuppett, Sarah Blackwell, Katie Fry and Dannon Magrane will swim in the 200-yard medley really. Michaela Walters, Dannon Magrane, Raisa Santiesteban, and Sarah Blackwell made it in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and in the 400 relay Walters, Santiesteban, Cuppett and Magrane qualified.
The Coral Shores' boy's team of Luis Santiesteban, A.J. Hamer, Matt Herum, and Ray Vaughn qualified for the 200 individual medley. These four swimmers also made it in individual events. Hamer and Santiesteban will swim in the 200 individual medley, Hamer also made it in the 100-yard butterfly. In the 100 freestyle, Vaughn and Santiesteban qualified, Daniel Michael, Arlo Simonds, Davis Zethki and Vaughn will take part in the 200 freestyle and Herum made the qualifying round for the 100-yard breaststroke.
Divers Meghan Miller and Taylor Anderson will compete in the ladies events and Luke Terrill qualified from the boys' team.
For Key West, senior Max Kohler was the only individual to qualify, swimming in the 500-yard freestyle, but has plenty of company from his teammates.
According to Conchs coach Lori Bosco, three relay teams will be joining Kohler. Alessandra Hally, Emily Hepworth, Orla Winner and Effie Ford qualified for the 200 freestyle relay.
For the Key West boys, Nicolas Palay, A.J. Hally, Lucas Mongelli, and Brandon Cyr also made it in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Hally, Clay Wagner, Scott Buchman, Brandon Cyr and Kohler qualified for the 400 freestyle relay.
Bosco said this is the culmination of their season long efforts.
"Everyone is excited about going to regionals -- their hard work has paid off," said Bosco. "Swimming their best could get them to the next level. We have a very tough districts and regionals. Regardless, these swimmers have done so well to get this far."
