20 YEARS AGO

Natosha Mounts was crowned homecoming queen for Key West High School during halftime of the football game that Key West won 58-0.

The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority board honored Sharlene Lot for 20 years of service.

50 YEARS AGO

Swimmers were banned from 12 areas in Monroe County due to water pollution from overflowing septic tanks.

The Key West Weather Bureau reported that October was the warmest on record for Key West, with a mean temperature of 82.5. The month was also dry, with only 3.47 inches of rain.

Rear Adm. Harald Voltersvik, commander of the North Norway Navy, arrived for a five-day visit to the Naval Station.

Ruth Alice Campbell, a School Board member from Marathon, blasted the school maintenance department.

100 YEARS AGO

An enthusiastic meeting took place at Fleming and Grinnell streets, Garfunkel's corner, in support of the city improvement bond. The meeting opened with music by the Light Guard band.

The first train carrying passengers after the storm from the mainland arrived at Knights Key. The passengers had to walk over 100 yards of the Indian Key Fill, where the track was still not safe for a train.
