Couty brothers score in Vikes' narrow win

KEY WEST -- No games were played last Saturday due to Fantasy Fest but there was still plenty of action during the weeknight games at George Mira Field.

With time zipping by, there is only one full week of the regular season games remaining on the schedule, but the league will have all-star squads taking part in postseason games, eventually attempting to qualify for the Orange Bowl championships.

B DIVISION

PUBLIX VIKINGS 13, ROTARY STEELERS 12

Of the six games played last week, this was the most exciting as the Steelers could not convert on the extra point after Damon Taylor put the Steelers within one point of tying the contest.

Taylor opened the scoring in the first quarter running it in for six. The Vikings' Cameron Couty tied the game at 6-6 and brother Kyle Couty put the Vikes on top for good scoring on a running play. Mitchell Baker hit Kyle Couty on the extra point passing attempt to go up 13-6 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Taylor's TD made things interesting but the Vikings' defense held the Steelers out of the end zone to preserve the one-point lead and victory.

FLAG DIVISION

HOWARD LIVINGSTON AND THE MILE MARKER 24 BAND GOLDEN KNIGHTS 22,

SUMMERLAND DENTAL RATTLERS 0

After a scoreless first quarter as a result of strong defensive play by both squads, Brendan Roney scored six on his sticks and found Cole Weitz open for the two-point conversion and 8-0 lead. Later in the second, Roney hooked up with Weitz for a touchdown pass and Brett More was good on the two-pointer and a 16-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Weitz found the end zone for a TD to wrap up the scoring.

HOWARD LIVINGSTON AND THE MILE MARKER 24 BAND GOLDEN KNIGHTS 40,

GARY THE CARPENTER SEMINOLES 6

Things started out good for the Noles as Angelo Nieto opened the game with a TD run, but that was it. L.J. Wiley tied the game in the first quarter on a touchdown run, Brendon Roney scored six and Cole Weitz added the two-point conversion and the Knights were off to the races.

After Enzo Marroni tackled the Noles in their own end zone for a safety, Weitz ran for a TD and he pulled down Roney's PAT pass. The Golden Knights added another safety in the third to go up 26-6. Roney hit Weitz for a TD pass in the fourth, Wiley converted on the two-pointer and David Stanyer capped the game with a TD run.

C DIVISION

GRIM'S GRILL COWBOYS 20, PAL RAIDERS 0

Lamont Woods ran for a touchdown and connected with Spenser Vinson on a TD pass to lead the Cowboys' win. John Green opened the scoring with a 6-yard TD run, while Ryan Keene picked up the PAT on Woods' 45-yard touchdown run and Demittrus Stiglitz converted on the TD pass.

A DIVISION

ROYAL PLUS PACKERS 38,

DENNIS PHARMACY FALCONS 0

Corey Harris rambled for a 42-yard TD run, caught a pass from Jeremy Williams for the PAT on K.C. Sagan's fumble recovery touchdown and he caught a TD pass from Williams in the second quarter to lead the Packers' victory. Jack Gruba ran for a pair of touchdowns and Dalton Bringle capped the scoring in the fourth on a scoring run.

KEY WEST ELECTRIC CHARGERS 28,

BALIUS SAINTS 6

The Chargers' Julian Ramirez ran an interception home for a TD, Lawrence Marius scored back-to-back touchdowns, the first on a run and the second on a fumble recovery while Edwin Mendieta kicked a pair of two-point conversions. Uriel Diaz caught a TD pass from Ramirez.

James Taylor finally got the Saints on the scoreboard on a third quarter TD run.
