Conversation with Conchs soccer player Chloe DeVelasco
A bright, flowery, flowy soccer player

After moving to Key West from her Miami birthplace during the summer of 2006, senior Chloe DeVelasco became a member of the Key West High girls soccer team. DeVelasco scored five goals last season and hopes to raise the bar this year and become "more a part of the attack." DeVelasco is preparing to be a critical part of team leadership. "I mostly care about teaching the new players the 'game' of soccer," said DeVelasco. "The challenge this year for our team is that defense is so new to our system." Becoming a guide for younger players this year, DeVelasco remembers the words of wisdom she received. "Monica Bertrum told me two years ago to always play hard," said DeVelasco. "And never give up on yourself or on the team."

Q: When were you born?

A: June 14, 1991

Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

A: I love to watch movies

Q: What's your favorite movie?

A: Under the Tuscan Sun

Q: What woman in the world has inspired you and why.

A: Michelle Obama. She is the wife of our President and she is still able to balance a family along with that political part of her life and she is so good at it. I aspire to be like her.

Q: Why did you decide to start playing soccer?

A: Well, I have always played soccer even when I lived in Miami, but the reason I decided to play in Key West was because my friends Tyler Lee and Paige Graham told me that I would have a good chance at making the team, so I thought, why not?

Q: What song are you most embarrassed to have on your iPod?

A: White-N-Nerdy

Q: What's your favorite dessert?

A: Cannolis

Q: What has been your most memorable moment while playing soccer for KWHS?

A: I have two. The first was when we played Rockledge last year and our boys' team was there. Having their support truly carried us through to a 6-5 win. Also, last season, the quarterfinals were amazing because every person played their hearts out.

Q: Who is your favorite soccer player?

A: Kaka, because he sees the field so well.

Q: Think of yourself as a homecoming dress, how would you describe yourself?

A: I would be bright and there would be flowers, maybe a pretty neckline, and I would be very flowy.
