Home sales up, prices still down
Increase in first three quarters is a first since September 2004

Homes sales in the Florida Keys were up 19 percent the first nine months of the year compared to the same time period in 2008.

This is the first time since September 2004 that sales haven't declined compared to the same nine-month period the preceding year, according to a quarterly real estate report from Coldwell Banker Schmitt Real Estate Co.

Real estate reality...

Homes will sell when you price them fairly... which is why the middle keys have seen such an increase in sales... still cannot believe that properties in Key West are being listed at over $800 per square foot (insanity)! Is it due to the greedy home-owner or the greedy real estate agent? Oh, and don't give me that nonsense about the lack of land or this being a destination, blah blah blah... Wake up & smell the economy!

I know your not a Keys Porperty owner!

"If You dont own property in the Keys your a dummy". "If you got rid of it before the crash your a genius". The past real estate market was more of a wall street banking fraud. We supplied the suckers. The prices will keep comming down until they stabilize to a reality price. Those 800k Key West shacks should be selling for arond 200-250K. Sorry chumps but you believed the Hype! The Fabulous Florida Keys!

Real Estate Reality

Your right! A 1200sf 2 bed 2 bath with a swimming pool in KW selling at over 1M...... You can buy a 3000sf ranch on 5 acres in NE Tennesee for about 400G, in the country. There are a lot of places that are a paridise other than KW, which is no longer a paridise!

No, YOU are right RE Reality

You hit it on the head Big E. Key West is no longer Paradise!!!! Thanks for that! Now why don't you take your dumb a$$ back to NE Tennesee where we don't have to deal with your whining! Little M

Yes, you sound like an inbred Conch

If it weren't for all the newbies you inbred Conch you wouldn't have an island to call home let alone indoor plumbing and running water. Just like the banjo playing kid in the movie Deliverance, you aren't playing with more than two brain cells. No wonder all the tourists point at you and laugh - Conch's are the newest joke on the island! And we newbies just love to poke fun at your hick ways!

HAHA, I haven't laughed that

HAHA, I haven't laughed that hard in a while, yes Conchs are not only a joke here in the keys and in Florida, but I have heard that term now in another state, more along the lines of being crooked though. Keep up the good work "Conchs"!

THIS IS THE ISSUE... Key

THIS IS THE ISSUE... Key West really IS paradise. The problem is that too many people got greedy during the real estate boom trying to "flip" real estate and not purchasing for the right reasoons; i.e. long-term! Just because you slap a coat of paint on the walls and install an IKEA press-board kitchen does not mean your property is worth an extra $1 mil (sorry, but the truth hurts)... Just file this commentary under "if it applies, pay attention" but some people should watch those HGTV shows, "Real Estate Intervention" or "What You Get for the Money" and then would they actually price their properties to sell!

Key West never was a

Key West never was a paradise. It was (is) a marketing facade, populated by posers and pretenders. It's warm in the winter, and has nice diving. Luck of geography. Other than that, it's overpriced food, condescending attitudes, poor service, and nasty beaches. See ya in Tennessee.

I concur, Key West is pretty

I concur, Key West is pretty much over-rated for what it is, they try and make it what its not with commercials on the radio and tv making the keys sound all relaxing and tranquil...however we all know thats not true. In reality its a bunch of tourists stuck in traffic on N. Roosevelt trying to get to Duval to get drunk. Driving up and down the keys the islands look like 130 miles wourth of trailer trash living. Have you ever seen Key West from the air? When ever I do I think to myself "Can they put any more people and buildings on this 2x5mile island?" Look and this stat. the highest point on KW is not Solaris Hill(Where is that anyways) but Mt. Trashmoore, you can see that from miles away. I talk with a lot of tourists, my observations are most people from the west coast to about colorado come here and don't see the attraction, people from the north east to about the dakotas do like it here. Just saying.
