The fate of unqualified school administrators may become clearer Tuesday when the board reviews a report on employee salaries, prepared by a consultant that erroneously eased their state-mandated job requirements.
Monroe County Schools Superintendent Joe Burke has said he will give employees time to obtain the required education and experience, but could at some point ask them to resign and reapply for their jobs.
It's possible that some of the directors of transportation, purchasing and other departments as well as other employees may not be rehired.
Board member John Dick on Friday speculated that Virginia-based Management Advisory Group (MAG) rewrote the requirements to appease former Superintendent Randy Acevedo and other administrators. Consultants write reports that ensure the district continues to give them contracts, Dick asserted.
"The results of the MAG Report and the Evergreen Report show the futility of expecting a consulting firm to bite the hand that feeds them," Dick said. Evergreen Solutions conducted a similar report on employee salaries and supplements. "The fact that (MAG's) dummied-down district office administrative job requirements was never in the written report to the School Board shows just how far consultants will go to please the district administration that pays them."
The board also wants to hear from investigator Richard Fechter whether it can recoup the nearly $100,000 that MAG charged for its work, which was supposed to be limited to determining whether employees' job duties matched their salaries and other compensation.
Board Chairman Andy Griffiths said he wants to take a broader look at the district's organizational chart.
"I want to know what Dr. Burke finds in the report that's valuable, and in the Evergreen Report, because they are about staffing," he said. "Evergreen Report said we could save a lot of money if we don't have assistant principals."
The board also will consider whether to return administrators' cell phones and BlackBerrys, eliminated in the wake of the recent financial scandal. Maintenance workers, bus drivers and others will have only push-to-talk devices if Burke gets his wish.
The board also will discuss details of the Sigsbee Charter School contract.

I'm becoming confused with the whole consulting thing. Which of the consultants is related to the 'retired' Acevedo hanger-on, Frankie? And which is related to Sunny Booker?
