Body found in mangroves

KEY WEST: A body was found this afternoon in the mangroves on the bridle path near Smathers Beach on South Roosevelt Boulevard, says police spokeswoman Alyson Crean.

Capt. Scott Smith said it was too early to tell if foul play was a factor. The body was fairly decomposed, which was hindering the early investigation, Crean said.

Detectives still are investigating the scene. Someone found the body and called police, she said.

No further information was released, including the gender.
