MIAMI -- Too many turnovers and a poor shooting percentage proved costly for the Coral Shores High girls basketball team Wednesday evening at Archbishop Carroll.
The Hurricanes, playing in their first road game of the season, gave up an early second-quarter lead and fell, 43-28, to the host Bulldogs. The loss dropped the 'Canes to 0-2 on the young season. They fell to Gulliver Prep, 63-31, at home on Monday.
Coral Shores coach Andy Thiery said his team is still trying to find its legs, as several players are still in the early basketball stages following the end of their fall sport seasons.
"We're just trying to get everybody on the same page right now," said Thiery, whose team returns all five starters from last season. "We'll get there. It's just a matter of people getting in basketball shape and getting back into our offensive scheme."
Latrice Johnson led the Hurricanes with 18 points. Alex Gonzalez added seven, and Cassandra Howard finished with four.
Coral Shores led 11-9 after the first quarter, but it was all Carroll from there. The Bulldogs, who made seven 3-pointers in the game against just one for Coral Shores, led 27-18 at the half, and pulled away in the third for the win.
The Hurricanes will get plenty of time to prepare for their rematch. They will host Carroll in their next game, scheduled for Dec. 1.
"We'll get it going," said Coral Shores assistant coach Dan Smith. "Hopefully we get it going soon."
