The party for the city's 10th anniversary will be held at a venue that was a key point in the city's incorporation.
The Marathon Community Park, a facility that got its start as the community was under the control of the county, will play host to the events slated to take place on Nov. 21. The condition of the town's park space was one of the biggest issues on Marathon residents' minds, according to surveys conducted during the time leading up to incorporation.
While the county was instrumental in purchasing the land for the park and making progress on its construction, the city has seen the project through to its finish.
Now fitted with a slew of amenities, including an amphitheater, the park has become a hub for Marathon, serving as the home to its largest event, the Marathon Seafood Festival.
The 10th Anniversary Party will have a similar feel to the seafood festival, in that vendor booths and tents will be set up on the fields, while live music and presentations take place on the stage.
"I just want everyone to come out and have a great time," said Marathon Mayor Ginger Snead, who was part of the committee that set up the 10th anniversary party. "I'm so excited we are going to have it happen."
The event runs from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Parking and admission are free. Food and drink will be sold at the event.
