Junior Sailfish Tournament Dec. 18-20

ISLAMORADA -- Teen recreation in the Florida Keys often involves learning to tie a bimini or getting ballyhoo-rigging lessons from experienced local captains and mates.

One weekend each year, anglers age 16 and younger can put such lessons to use by competing in the Islamorada Junior Sailfish Tournament.

The 45th annual all-release challenge is set for Friday through Sunday, Dec. 18-20, headquartered at Oceanview Inn and Pub, Mile Marker 84.5.

A trophy is to be awarded to every angler in the tournament.

The tournament begins with a Friday night kick-off party at 6 p.m. at Oceanview.

Fishing on Saturday and Sunday will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The awards banquet and barbecue is to take place at 6 p.m. Sunday at Oceanview.

Entry fee is $100 per angler, with a maximum of six anglers allowed per boat. Entrants are encouraged to donate a new toy for Toys for Tots.

For more information, contact tournament director Tammie Gurgiolo at 305-852-9337 or e-mail fishnbully@msn.com.
