Man guilty of murdering 2 former locals

A 29-year-old North Carolina man is facing the death penalty after jurors on Tuesday found him guilty of murder in the 2006 shooting deaths of two former Lower Keys residents.

Anthony Tyrone McMillan, 29, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of former Teaser's dancer Tammy Rosario, 29, and second-degree murder in the death of former part-time Big Coppitt Key resident Mark Robinson, 49.

Prosecutors said McMillan shot Rosario once and Robinson twice at a Stedman, N.C., car wash supply warehouse owned and operated by Robinson. Employees of The Car Wash Express found the bodies and discovered a broken door-window on Aug. 15, 2006, reports say.

The Chapel Hill Medical Examiner's Office said Rosario died from a single gunshot wound to her right thigh. The Fayetteville Observer newspaper previously reported that Robinson died from two close-range gunshot wounds in his upper chest and abdomen.

McMillan, who also was found guilty of robbery with a dangerous weapon, used a handgun to rob Robinson of cash and Rosario of a Glock pistol. Robinson had almost $11,300 in his left pocket held together with a rubber band, according to an autopsy report, the Fayetteville newspaper reported.

McMillan reportedly was called to the business the night before the bodies were found to sell Robinson and Rosario crack cocaine.

According to court testimony, Rosario and Robinson were romantically involved and working at the warehouse at the time of the killings. Robinson had separated from his wife in January 2006 and returned to North Carolina with Rosario.

The trial now goes to the sentencing phase, which could be completed by Thursday, at which point jurors will decide whether McMillan will spend the rest of his life in prison or be sentenced to death.

Richard Bernard Gill Jr., of Hope Mills, N.C., also faces two counts of first-degree murder in the case. His trial is pending, according to the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office.
