Gasoline costs more today
The cost of driving through the Florida Keys just got a little more expensive.
An additional four pennies of tax was added to gas pumps in the Keys on Friday.
The Monroe County Commission in May voted to raise the price of gas by 4 cents as a way to fund bridge and road projects, Public Works Director Dent Pierce said. County motorists now pay 13 cents p...

Big deal. Most people use less than 600 gallons a year (20mpg times 600=12,000 miles). Thats $24 more a year. I rather people pay more who use more including tourists and yes use the money to hire more people in the county if need be or lower trash fees or mosquitto fees.

SOON TO COME....gasoline czar to administer the extra $1000000 in tax monies. He or she will be a "conchy friend or relative". Pay will be around $150000 per year. They will be allowed to choose 2 assistants (family or close friends) at $85000 per year. This is the Keesey Way!

Great. Yet another Tax. I thought my existing taxes paid for maintaining our roads and bridges. Maybe if the county could stop spending on non essentials we would not need to hit working people trying to commute up and down the keys again!!! We should tax the tourists. They would not even notice a few dollars more on a hotel bill and spend the money on The County and not just advertising for more tourists!

this tax will only effect Monroe County residents. Tourists can fill up for a round trip outside the county
layoff some county administration and workforce and stop gouging the producers of the county for the county workfare system
