


Domestic Abuse Shelter names Unsung Hero
Lupe Marzoa was chosen as the 2009 Florida Keys Domestic Abuse Shelter's "Unsung Hero" recipient. The award recognizes outstanding volunteers who have worked tirelessly for nonprofit and civic organizations throughout the Florida Keys.
Marzoa has served on the center's board since 2005, and as its vice president for the last three years. She is TIB Bank's assistant vice president and branch manager at the Marathon Old Town office.
A longtime resident of Marathon, Marzoa also is involved with Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys, serving as treasurer and on the board for the last five years.
Lupe serves as secretary for the Marathon Chamber of Commerce board of directors and has represented TIB Bank as its Marathon team captain for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life for the past seven years.
Thoman-Wood earns realty certification
Tara Thoman-Wood of Prudential Knight and Gardner Realty has earned the nationally recognized Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource certification. The National Association of Realtors offers the certification to Realtors who want to help both buyers and sellers navigate the complicated transactions, as demand for professional expertise with distressed sales grows.
Housing Authority thanks Boza, Strachan
The Key West Housing Authority board recently recognized two employees for their service.
Gilda Boza was honored for her five years of service to the organization. She diligently serves in the capacity of Community Development Office program coordinator handling numerous programs, including Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program, Mayor's Revolving Loan Fund, and the city of Key West work force and affordable housing. Gilda was named Employee of the Third Quarter for 2009.
Kenya Strachan was congratulated as being selected the 2010 Employee of the First Quarter.
Strachan began her career with the Housing Authority in 1993. She currently is a housing manager for the affordable housing communities. She was noted as being a team player with a positive attitude who works well with management, maintenance and the residents.
Fishermen's names board leadership
Jeff Coldren was named chair of the Fishermen's Hospital board of advisers.
Coldren has been a member of the board since 2002. He has been active in the community as a volunteer fireman and chair of the Marathon Code Compliance Board. Coldren, the owner of Sunshine Quality Roofing, also has served on several state and national work-related committees.
Claudia McEwen was named vice-chair of the hospital's board of advisers. McEwen, a retired pediatrician, has been a member of the board since 2001. In addition, she serves on the hospital's Board Credentials Committee.
McEwen currently works as a paralegal for Richard Warner, P.A. She also has been active with the Marathon Community Theater as a board member, past president and director of makeup.
Centennial Bank recognizes Star Tellers
Centennial Bank congratulated the following employees for earning the Star Teller Award: Fausta Moreira and Shirley Scott, Marathon; Mary Jamison, Summerland Key; Patti Fissinger, Islamorada; Azucena Landis, Marathon Midtown; Denisse Parrado, Duck Key; April Serpa and Helen Bauman, Key West North Roosevelt Boulevard; Vincent Hall, Key Largo; and Monica Grodzinski, Key West Old Town.
