Lecture on local schooner
The Key West Maritime Historical Society invites its members and the public to a free lecture on the history and restoration of the classic wooden schooner Hindu and the sailing adventures of her master, Capt. Kevin Foley.
The event begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of the Key West Library, 700 Fleming St.
Foley started working as a deck hand on the schooner at 12 years old. Now in his mid-70s, he has sailed extensively along the East Coast, the Bahamas and Caribbean, and Europe.

Professional meeting
The Florida Keys Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management will meet at 11:30 am Wednesday at the Holiday Inn Key Wester, 3850 N. Roosevelt Boulevard.
All business professionals are invited to attend. Lunch is included with the $25.
A presentation on disaster preparedness given by Irene Toner, director of Monroe County Emergency Management, will begin at noon.

KEY LARGO
Beautifying U.S. 1
Beautifying the U.S. 1 corridor will be the topic of the program at the general membership luncheon of the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce Wednesday.
Architects will talk about ways the Florida Department of Transportation and the community can work together to beautify U.S. 1 through Key Largo.
