Thanks to Waterfront for high school play
On Feb. 5, Key West High School had the privilege to see the play 'No Child' performed by the talented actress Lela Elam. Ms. Elam performed the show in the Key West High School auditorium with over 400 students present. Students gathered into the auditorium during fifth and sixth periods to watch the play about a modern day high school in New York City. Lena Elam acted out the roles of students and faculty members in this one-man play, portraying each character comically and realistically.
The student body and I would like to thank Ms. Elam, and the Waterfront Playhouse, for donating their time and allowing her to perform for us. We greatly appreciated and enjoyed the play and are thankful to everyone.

Thanks for helping me during a tough time
Recently, I was involved in a traumatic bicycle accident that left me with severe injuries and significant medical expenses. I am deeply moved by the outpouring of support this community provided to me.
Thank you to my fellow riders, especially Dan Anderson, Deirdre Robbins and Clinton Curry. To Patrick at Fixed Gears, thank you for fixing my bike. To Clinton Curry, Stay Fit Studio and the Guidance Care Center, thanks for organizing fundraisers to help with my medical expenses. And to all those in this community known and unknown who expressed their love and support through financial contributions, cards, flowers, homemade soups, texts and phone calls, words can never express how significantly you have impacted my recovery. The gratitude I feel is immense, and this community has deeply touched me. I feel so lucky to be part of Key West.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks for supporting Heron-Peacock's effort
Heron-Peacock Supported Living, which provides community residential mental health programs in Monroe County, wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Key West Woman's Club and its president, Eileen Kawaler, for the use of its clubhouse for our recent fundraiser, "A Night at the Kasbah," and its continuing support of our nonprofit agency.
We have been told that our "Casablanca" theme made for a delightful time. We also wish to thank decorator John Russo, pianist Bob Widener, jugglers and entertainers Karen and Bounce Margill, belly dancer Christina Student, performer Nancy 3, Julio Avael for playing the drums, the Heron-Peacock board and fundraising committee and Woman's Club members who contributed to our success.
The proceeds are used to maintain our program that offers housing and support to men and women with mental illness to promote recovery and a successful life in the community.

There are still decent people in the world
The last week in February, my husband and I were vacationing in Key West. On a very rainy night, I suddenly realized my purse was missing. We filed a police report and cancelled our credit cards; however, my purse also contained medical equipment I need to use every day. Naturally I was very distraught.
The following day we retraced our steps, and in Key West Shells and Gifts on Duval Street, two young ladies who worked at the store returned my purse to me. Apparently they had found it and had put it in a safe place.
I cannot describe my joy and relief at having my purse returned to me with everything intact. These employees refused my offer of a cash reward, saying "just remember, there are still decent people in the world."
I want you to know that yes there are -- and they are living in Key West. ...
