Suarez is freed pending tax trial
Probation status is undecided as case is reviewed

A former Key West Public Works superintendent indicted Friday on charges that he and family members operated a tax fraud scheme out of the Monroe County Detention Center four years ago was released from custody Monday, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Gilbert Suarez was serving five years' probation stemming from 2006 grand theft and drug charges when the...

what a plea deal

clean for 5 years probation and then no record of being a dope addict and repeat thief. What about all the money he stole.Thousands of dollars is not petty crime. Was he forced to repay the city With interest! ...How about his wife and mother in law. What was their sentences. Now that he has violated his probation by being active in criminal behavior, why is he out on bail

Here's An Idea....

Let's imagine Suarez is a homeless person and we're the Mayor's daughter behind the wheel of a truck!

Once a crook, always a crook

Revoke his probation, and send him to jail for the Federal charges of stealing from the taxpayers, as well as the theft from the people of Key West. This is why I'd never have hired Veliz for the city and why I'd never hire an Acevedo. They still feel they're entitled and that attitude clearly shifts downward to those who work for them. Why do you think private industry generally will not hire a felon? And why then, does our local government feel it's OK to hire felons?

Once an idiot, always an idiot.

Racism will get you everywhere in this country. Keep it up. =-= You don't know about this case, only what you read in these horrible excuses for newspapers.=-= If you knew Gilbert Suarez, you would know what a great person he was for the city. He made great progress in the cities coordination in planning and execution of events. If you seriously think he did anything 5 years ago, he would be in jail. He didn't do anything wrong. He was forced to resign and pay a random amount of money which happened to be his exact pension. If he had a decent lawyer, nothing would of happened to him. That's asking a lot from Key West though. A decent lawyer. Hilarious. Lawyers are crooks as are everybody in Key West's local government. You belong there you naive piece of crap.

?? And what about that post was racist? It's all about thieves,

crooks and drug dealers. We're not quite sure how you're making the great leap to racism from a post naming convicted felons. All mentioned have robbed the taxpayers in one way or another, or have been drug dealers, putting innocent citizens and children at risk.

You Bubba crooks think it's all your 'due' to take all you can steal from taxpayers and children, and STILL keep your jobs. It's pretty pathetic. And didn't do anything wrong? He robbed the city, methodically for years, with all his family members involved. That's not wrong in your view? What set of values were you raised on, Bubba?

Now? It appears he was robbing all taxpayers as well, again with his family members. Ahhh...the family that steals together stays together, right? Perhaps they can stay together in prison this time.

Too late

Suarez was seen robbing parking meters in Havana last week.
