Stimulus loan of $36M still sought
School Board reviews audit, agrees to move forward with new middle school

The School Board will let the district continue preparations for a $36 million stimulus loan to build a new middle school now that board members have aired their concerns over a scathing audit showing more financial problems.

During a nearly three-hour discussion on whether administrators will be held accountable for continuing improper accounting and financial oversight, Su...

THIRTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS!

THIRTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS! The board needs it! They have already run out of tax money to waste, now we must provide other sources of revenue for them to steal and waste!

lipstick on a pig

You can build a new school but it'll still be HOB. That place is a thug factory. I cannot wait for a K-8 alternative in Key West. I'm getting my kids on the wait list for Sigsbee Charter.

CRACKS vs. QUACKS

HOB may have concrete spalling but our economy has just suffered an earthquake. While the HOB building may have some cracks - there are clearly a bunch of 'quacks' on the School Board. We CAN NOT afford to re-build HOB at this time, in fact, we cannot afford any major expenditures at this time. The School Board needs to get their priorities straight - educate our children!

Cracks?

Clearly you have not been in HOB in some time if ever. The building has far more issues then cracks. The building is a health risk and should be torn down and replaced as soon as possible. I guess having a school with a leaking roof, infestation of rodents and black mold everywhere is the appropriate learning environment for our kids. Out of all the stimulus money that is being spent, this type of loan and spending is appropriate. I agree that we are borrowing far too much money, but this need is necessary.

Why are none of our

Why are none of our buildings in Key West maintained? I am sick of hearing I have to pay to tear down and rebuild. City Hall, HOB... enough is enough. Maintain the darn buildings. Buildings should last hundreds of years!!!!

Of course they need to educate, but first they have to stop the

fiscal bleeding from fraud and theft and graft. If they don't they'll have nothing to use for money to educate the kids. The teachers educate. The Board sees that they have what they need to do so, and that means proper materials and classrooms. And the parents need to raise their children to be eager to learn and grow. It takes all of that to educate your kids, so do your part, the board will do theirs and the teachers will do theirs.

I wonder how many tax payers

I wonder how many tax payers want to take out a 36 MILLION dollar loan?? Come on people, we can not afford this!! Why does it take 36M to buiuld a school and more importantly, why do we need another school in this county or city?? This is outrageous! Hello. My kids do not want another loan to pay off for the rest of their lives so some bubbas can have another construction project to keep them busy. STOP THIS MADNESS AND STOP SPENDING OUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bozo in the Hat

Who is the Bozo looking guy with the beard and hat that's always on camera during the school board meeting, he sounds like the press sec'y for John Dick. Is he suppose to hold up a John 3:16 sign?

Fred Sims

Did my ears hear correctly that Fred Sims refused to tell the school board yesterday who told him to build the $218,000 concession stand at HOB. He spent $218,000 without board approval, then why is he still employeed with a $150,000 salary and benefits. Mr. Burke, now is the time to start the administration changes, cut Sims out of the pictures.

Sims told all of his workers that Fred Colvard would fire them

No wonder Fred Sims was nervous that Dr. Colvard would get elected. It all makes sense now. Fire Sims, the leech. Refusing to answer questions means one thing....he's guilty like his buddy, Acevedo.

Yes, you heard correctly. I

Yes, you heard correctly. I couldn't believe it either, why didn't anyone on the SB force him to tell us?

If that concession actually

If that concession actually cost "only" $218,000.00, then I'm sure you can buy a brand new Rolls Royce for only a thousand dollars!

Anyone associated with THAT debacle should be fired

immediately, especially anyone who refuses to tell the board what they want to know. Isn't he one of those who was playing with the purchase cards as well, allowing others to use his or using the pcards of others to 'hide' activities? And...were all of the materials for this spending spree on an unapproved structure, actually used on the structure. There is so much fraud in the school district, they should fire them all and start over.
