ROBERT ALLEN MOSS
Robert Allen Moss died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at home in Marathon, Fla., after valiantly battling cancer.
Born May 13, 1948, in Miami, Fla., Bob grew up and attended school in North Miami Beach, and graduated from North Miami Beach High School in 1966. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army, and did his basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.
When Bob was discharged from the Army, he headed to California. He lived in Santa Cruz, Calif., and was employed at various jobs while attending Cabrillo College.
In 1977, Bob moved to Lake Tahoe, Nev., and started his career in gaming at Harrah's Lake Tahoe Casino. He was a keno writer initially, but became a 21 dealer, and a craps dealer, eventually becoming a pit boss. It was at this time, in 1981, that Bob met and fell in love with Juliet. A few years later they were married, on Feb. 29, 1992.
That was the Golden Era of Tahoe, but in 1994, Bob was transferred to Harrah's Shreveport Casino, and spent three years in Louisiana. After 20 years with Harrah's Corp., in 1997, Bob left for Lawrenceburg, Ind., and a job as pit supervisor at the new Argosy Casino. The next 11 years were spent working with a wonderful group of people who became dear and true friends.
Bob and Juliet's plans to retire to the Florida Keys hit a bump in the road with Bob's cancer diagnosis in 2006. He did not let it deter him and in 2008, Bob and Juliet moved to Marathon, Fla.
Bob -- his family called him Bobby -- was a gourmet cook, and he loved fine dining and traveling. He had recently connected with his good friends, buds, from 40 years ago. A better man, a better friend, there will never be. Bob loved nothing more than a good joke, or a great one-liner. Behind a big, somewhat gruff exterior was a heart of gold ... a very large, soft heart.
Bob is survived by his wife, Juliet; his brother, Don, and his wife, Debby; nieces, Kymberly Moss and Kelley Van Epps; and great-nieces, McKenna and Maddy Van Epps. His in-laws include Bob Jones, father-in-law; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bo and Jana Jones, and Bill and Renee Jones. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Irene Moss. Heads up and acknowledgement to all of those wonderful "Argosy Workhaters," and to Gary, always a brother, Jimmy G., Mike, Kelso, and Dr. Bill.
There will be no services at this time. If they wish, friends may donate to any of their favorite charities in Bob's name, or they may share a joke, a memory, enjoy a glass of wine or a beautiful sunset, and think of Bob Moss. E-mail condolences to bluemosses@gmail.com.
