Local oil spill responders sought
Threat remains low, but officials want to be prepared for the worst

BP and Florida oil response officials want to establish a group of 300 trained people in the Florida Keys to perform shoreline cleanup activities if oil ever reaches the area.

There was no imminent threat Monday of oil reaching the Keys, but there was a need to identify resources and train people who can then respond immediately, BP spokesman Andrew Van Chau said.

How nice.

So BP wants oil cleanup workers in the Keys. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the info in this article, but it is worth reading: http://www.businessinsider.com/warning-to-gulf-cleanup-workers-almost-ev...

THERE'S NO SHARK HERE, ENJOY THE BEACH!

SIGNED, THE MAYOR OF AMITY ISLAND (BURP!)

300 workers, 1700 islands,

that's about 5 1/2 islands per worker. I don't see how shoveling debris, running front-end loaders, and cleaning rocks on a beach will help since only a very small percentage of the total shoreline in the Keys is beaches. How do you clean mangroves with a shovel?

Get a clue B.P

I heard they want you to pay 60.00 for a class. REALLY B.P ? You want us to pay to volunteer to clean your mess? How about paying all the people who your oil will put out of work to clean your mess!

Be warned!

Oil cleanup is a nasty, labor intensive job that can have severe or later effects upon your health. Luckily by the time it reaches the Keys it should be tarballs, less toxic than the fresh spilled oil reeking with chemical vapors. The pay is also terrible, oil workers in the fields and rigs get upwards of $25 a hour or more and get exposed to the same conditions. Right now the cleanup effort is looking for free or $10-$12 a hour workers with Hazmat training, a several day course can be taken online for a expensive fee. Question you have to ask yourself is if your a type of person willing to sniff paint painting their own house in the hot sun for weeks on end, go through clothes like crazy, especially expensive shoes and boots, blisters on your hands and feet, etc. Heck a $10 hour a job bagging groceries in the A/C at the local supermarket might be a better choice, more money in your pocket too after all is said and done. The Keys are a different economy than the poor Gulf states where housing is cheap and plentiful, we need more money for stable workers here to offset the higher cost of living.

The oil keeps on Spewing!!

Lets hope that you are right on it being tar balls when it gets here, to this date the oil is still POURING out of the hole they created. Until they close the hole, none of us are out of the woods.

Get all those

illegals out there and/or all the welfare folks.

Pass it on...

Would someone pass this info along to Morgan McPherson? I hear he's looking for a job. Well, not really looking...

he he he Morgan wouldn't know a REAL job if it bit him on his

big ole butt! He's never worked a day in his life.

I emailed

Bahamasal and he said he was available but only for an administrative position. He said he wants to sit in the air condition and count the bags of tar balls coming in.

he wants to come back

he got mad... grabbed all his marbles and stormed off.... sat for awhile on the outside looking in.... cooled off a bit... now he's sorry and wants to come back! and, he expects to be welcomed with open arms, and given a cushy job and live happily ever after.... WHO IS THIS GUY? TheFifthGrader/Bahamasal - bloom where you are planted, and since you planted yourself in the Bahamas..... bloom away... far away......

Put the crack pipe down

and step away from the computer.....
