Bruce joins Marathon Veterinary Hospital

Jackie Bruce has joined the animal health care team at the Marathon Veterinary Hospital.

After growing up in South Carolina, Bruce attended the University of Georgia, where she earned her bachelor's degree in animal science and her doctorate in veterinary medicine. She recently completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa, one of the most competitive programs in the nation. Her main interests are zoological and wildlife medicine.

Centennial Bank recognizes star tellers

Centennial Bank congratulates the following employees for earning the Star Teller Award: Jessica Lugo, Marathon main branch; Chelsea Howard, Summerland; Sally Glass, Islamorada; Ashley Todd, Big Pine Key; Cintia Companioni, Midtown; Denisse Parrado, Duck Key; April Serpa and Billy Betancourt, Key West North Roosevelt Boulevard; Vincent Hall, Key Largo; and Karen Galo, Raquel Mendez and Violet Cline, Key West Whitehead Street.

The Star Teller Program rewards tellers for maintaining Centennial Bank's standard of customer service, meaning they have no unscheduled absences, and that for every given number of transactions there are a minimal number of errors. Each receives a monetary award and a gold star to be placed on his or her nameplate, indicating to customers the teller provides stellar customer service.

Cashwell named outstanding employee

Walter Cashwell has been named Keys Energy Services' Outstanding Employee of the Third Quarter for 2010.

Cashwell has worked for the utility for nearly 13 years and currently works as a journeyman lineman within the Transmission & Distribution Department. He is responsible for maintaining and servicing all transmission and distribution electrical facilities.

Employees are considered for the award after being nominated by their peers and/or supervisors. Final selection of the outstanding employee is based on several factors, which include attendance, attitude, efficiency, initiative, and job performance, among others.

Utility head recognized for service

The Florida Keys Electric Cooperative board recently thanked CEO Scott Newberry for 20 years of service.

Newberry joined the utility in 1990 as a planning, rate and budget analyst and was promoted in 1996 to chief financial officer, where he oversaw all of the financial, accounting, billing and information system functions. In 2002, he was promoted to assistant general manager before assuming his current position in January 2006.

Newberry is an active member of the Upper Keys community and is a two-time past president of the Rotary Club of Key Largo. He also has served on the boards of both the Key Largo and Islamorada chambers of commerce.

In 1994, Newberry completed the three-year national electrical course for apprentice linemen to further his education in cooperative operations. He is a graduate of Leadership Monroe County Class 11 and completed the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's Management Internship Program in 2005.

Newberry graduated from Arkansas State University with a degree in agriculture business and economics in 1986 and earned a master's degree in business administration from Regis University in 2006.
