Ladies, Let's Go Fishing! seminar set for Nov. 12-14

ISLAMORADA -- Women looking to jump-start their angling experience can register for the 10th annual Ladies, Let's Go Fishing! seminar, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 12-14.

Lady anglers are to gather at Holiday Isle Beach Resorts and Marina, Mile Marker 84 oceanside in Islamorada, for the award-winning fishing seminar series to learn and share practical skills in knot tying, casting and conservation practices as well as presentations geared toward fishing offshore, on the bottom, inshore or with a fly rod.

Presented in cooperation with Florida's Fish and Wildlife Commission and billed as the "no-yelling school of fishing," the seminar kicks off at 6 p.m., Friday, with a welcome party for participants and guests.

Saturday's activities begin at 8 a.m. with class-style sessions at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. After lunch, the action starts with women gaffing grapefruits and casting bait nets like weighted canopies over clear shallow waters. Other hands-on fishing stations include conservation techniques, spin casting, knot tying, boat handling, trailer backing and reeling against pressure. The schedule concludes at 4:30 p.m.

On Sunday morning, the class heads out to fish the waters off Islamorada. Anglers can choose fishing from a party (drift) boat, inshore flats fishing or testing their skills from a sportfishing boat.

Later, before savoring their succulent catch, participants can learn how to fillet it themselves in the seminar's final session.

The entry fee of $115 per person ($135 after Oct. 29) includes lunch, a goody bag, class book and instruction. Sunday fishing excursions are additional. Classes usually sell out quickly.
