With another prep football season set to kick off tonight in the Keys, each of the county's four teams will have plenty of questions as several new faces -- both on the sidelines and on the field -- will shape the 2010 season.
In Key West, the Conchs will introduce several new players in prominent positions as well as welcome the return of some others.
Taking snaps for the Conchs will be Matteo Gazzale, in his first season at the school, and Clinton McCoy, who missed much of the last two seasons due to injury. McCoy will also be in the mix at tailback, joining first-year starter NaQuan McNeill and senior Andre Drew, who saw limited action a year ago.
Key West will also have some new key faces on the defensive side. Sophomore defensive end Roberto Val, who looked strong in the team's spring win, will likely see a lot of time, as well as new safety Bertrum Hayes.
Those won't be the only players in the county looking to prove themselves this season.
Marathon will be introducing an almost entirely new offense as well, as Trevelle Beckford and Justin Kornetti will be taking over at tailback and quarterback, respectively, for the Dolphins. Beckford, an all-county defensive back last season who also played receiver, will look to show what he can do running the ball this year.
At Coral Shores, almost everything will be new for the Hurricanes, who are looking to bounce back from a winless 2009 campaign. New coach Shane Couty will introduce first-year starters at quarterback, with Joey Vaughn, tailback, with Nick Biondoletti, and just about every other position on the field.
At Island Christian School, which is entering its second season of six-man football, the Eagles are looking to build on their experience from last season, the first for many players ever in organized football. Still, the team will have to adjust to a new coach in Ken Haab, and will look to extend its playbook as it takes on a seven-game schedule following a 2-4 season in 2009.
With so much uncertainty surrounding each of the county's teams heading into the season, tonight's preseason slate -- Key West, Marathon and Coral Shores are each scheduled to hit the field -- and the early weeks of the regular season could go a long way toward shaping the identity of Keys football in 2010.
