SUFA refutes county's claims
Animal shelter denies any wrongdoing

Stand Up For Animals' executive director has geared up for a battle with Monroe County over frozen funds, firing back after allegations of misspending led to the animal shelter operator being replaced at two Middle Keys locations.

Linda Gottwald released a two-page, point-by-point letter to local media on Monday refuting allegations raised so far in a preliminary county audi...

why can't anyone see the solution

it is clear to me that we need a professional running animal control in the keys. to have 3 contractors spread out over the keys invites inconsistency and lack of control. the county should hire a director to run all three and forget bidding it out. where is the girl who used to run the spca in key west? she really knew how to run that shelter and if anyone had any dealings with her they know she knew her stuff. if i am correct in thinking her husband was the operations manager and he was equally competent. the county should be looking to find her or someone like her to run animal control for all three locations.

Leave with your dignity

Linda, be smart, leave with some dignity. Your friends claim that what you did was a mistake. It may have been, but do you know that Monique Acevedo claims that what she did was a mistake too? Well, she's doing 8 years in jail. Are you willing to risk joining her? Think again and move on.

County was a sleep

After reading this story it would appear that if fee's needed approval that the county (Dent Pierce) should have been monitoring the contract and the fact that other shelter's have been doing the same shows a clear lack of supervision of a contract. If there was a problem it needed to be resolved years ago. How much are we paying Dent? Dent needs to step down tax payers deserve better. In the mean time as a tax payer I do not see fighting a vendor for a mistake the county made by not keeping up with the contract, let her have her funds and drop this lawsuit nonsense that will cost the taxpayers just like the Duck Tour case cost us.

County Sleep or Not

Whether the County was sleep or not is no reason to rip anyone off. Do you mean to tell me that when you are sleep in your home it is ok for a burglar to come in and take what you worked hard for? If so, please give us your address and I'm sure there will be plenty of people happy to take your possessions off your hands while you sleep. The bottom line is that SUFA not only tried to ripoff the County but also the taxpayers. Mistake or not, that's not acceptable. Book her Dennis!

"closed door sessions"

I for one am sick of all of Mayor Murphy's "closed door sessions". I believe SUFA and Linda Gottwald are being railroaded. I think Ms. Wigington is getting a tad big for her britches lately. Yes Commission-! Be financially diligent- but look to your own houses first- cut administration and moronic spending like for the Hickory House and other such nonsense purchases. Call around, check out what most adoption fees in South Florida go for...call the Humane Society of Broward, a beautful adoption center, should be a poster child for all. If anyone is ever up in Fort Lauderdale it's near the airport and it's really something to see. Can't we entice these people to come here and take it all over?

Isn't it amazing how much

Isn't it amazing how much Gottwald's response to an audit sounds just like Norma Jean Sawyer's initial response to the City audit that ultimately led to Sawyer's arrest. Maybe her lawyer should advise her to remain silent and pray the audit turns out well.
