ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys -- The winner of the Islamorada Fishing Club's 2011 Sailfish Tournament, set for Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 26-27, may take home a $25,000 cash prize or even more.
The $25,000 is guaranteed if 25 boats register for the boat tournament. An additional $1,000 is to be added to the prize money for each boat registering after the first 25, up to a limit of 30 boats. Therefore, the total cash payout could reach $30,000.
The tournament kickoff is Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the club, Mile Marker 82 bayside. Registration and cocktails are set for 6-7 p.m., followed by a rules meeting and dinner.
Fishing is Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All boats must return to the dock by 5:30 p.m.
Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres are to be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and awards.
The tournament is the final leg of the three-tournament Florida Keys Gold Cup Sailfish Championship, which also includes the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament and the Jan. 20-22 Cheeca Lodge Presidential Sailfish Tournament.
Gold Cup Championship awards are to be presented at the club Thursday, Jan. 27, following the IFC tournament.
Entry fee for the sailfish challenge is $2,500 per boat for a two-angler team. Additional social tickets can be purchased at the club for $85 per person.
