Betty Louise Sykes, 89, passed away peacefully in Key West, Fla., on Thursday, June 2, 2011, with her loving family and friends beside her.
Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Betty Lou Yeoward was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Moline, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Hana Neilsen Yeoward.
She married Leland D. Sykes Nov. 10, 1942, in Lancaster, Mo. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1985.
Betty had a very beautiful smile and contagious laugh with a happy spirit until the end.
She loved and adored her many pets over the years. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, in Moline.
For the past seven years, she lived with her daughter, Karen Lee Sykes-Hirst of Key West. She is also survived by a son, Frank Ross Sykes (Linda) of Moline. She has three grandchildren, Robert Guthrie (Stephanie) of Miami, Fla., Jacqueline Ann Lytton (Joseph) of Bay Pointe, Key West, and Heather Dawn Henson of Sugarloaf Key in the Florida Keys.
She has five great-grandchildren; two great-grandsons, Chad Lee Perez and Michael Reed Jr.; and three great-granddaughters, Nanea Ann Perez, Brittany Paige Henson and Tory Leanne Henson, all of the Florida Keys; and one great-great-grandson, Blaise Aiden Trant-Perez of Tallahassee, Fla. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded by her husband, Leland; twin sister, Mary Jane, and older sister, Virginia.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her wonderful, loving and caring doctors, Dr. Bruce Boros and Dr. Beysolow.
