Conch JVs take pair over RPB JV

KEY WEST -- While the Key West Varsity would lose its second game to Royal Palm Beach on Saturday, the Conchs' Junior Varsity took care of the RPB JVs twice, 4-3 and 6-5.

Dexter Butler filled in as the Key West JV coach for ailing Freddy Varela and directed the team to the double-dip victory.

In the first game, Brandon Presley went six innings with the JV Conchs opening up with three runs in the first inning capped by a two-run double off the bat of Anthony Henriquez. Joey Figueroa got the third RBI on a forceout.

In the bottom of the sixth, Andy Perez had a two-out triple followed by an infield single by Shayne Alongi as a time-limit rule halted the game after that inning.

In the second game, Figueroa "did an outstanding job," Butler said, going five innings with Austin Kibler shutting out the visitors in the final two frames.

In the fourth, Gustavo Galo and Juwan Brown hit RBI singles followed by a triple by Ivan Darce.

Key West, now 8-2, plays a doubleheader at Gulliver Prep at 1 p.m., Friday.
