The Key Largo Chamber of Commerce has set up a selection committee to find a replacement for resigning President Jackie Harder.
Last week Harder, the business advocacy group's top administrator, announced her resignation after six-and-a-half years at the helm.
Her resignation is effective April 27.
"We have already received 30 or 40 applications," said Russ Yagel, chairman of the chamber's board of directors and a member of the three-person selection committee.
"We are relying heavily on word-of-mouth.
"There is a good bit of local talent we think would be viable candidates for the position, but we are not going to solicit other organizations and other businesses' employees," he said.
Besides Yagel, Mariners Hospital CEO Rick Freeburg and Upper Keys Marine Construction owner Dawn DeBrule serve on the search committee.
"We will take applications and review resumes through April 15 and then see where we're at," said DeBrule.
Both DeBrule and Yagel emphasized that the April 15 deadline is tentative.
Although Harder will devote much of her time to her own business venture, she will continue to handle the chamber's communications efforts on a contractual basis.
The Key Largo chamber is a not-for-profit organization that represents local companies in an attempt to stimulate business through contact with potential customers at its visitor center and through worldwide advertising.
