Hickory House for sale, lease -- again
Monroe County hopes fifth time's a charm for proposals

Monroe County will make a fifth attempt to sell or lease a waterfront property on Stock Island it has been trying to unload for years.

The County Commission will discuss selling or leasing the vacant Hickory House restaurant property when it meets April 18 in Key West. County Administrator Roman Gastesi said he wants the commission to seek proposals once again.

I can't remember one good reason the county bought this armpit piece of property for $3 million. It isn't worth more than 500k if that. Totally at the end of Stock Island, no traffic or people. Who is going to lease or buy that piece of crap property? Nobody. The County people responsible for this should be indicted and forced to live under house arrest on this property.

Boycott the Wharf!

I am still livid over this crooked, corrupt sale. Dixie Spehar and the old HH owner, Melodye Reger, should be in prison over this. Meanwhile, Reger sits on her high horse running her new restuarant on Summerland Key, the Wharf. It baffles me the people of this county actually go to the Wharf after how the owner and Shehar duped us out of 3,000,000 through their back door deal. I will never spend a cent there, and neither should any other tax paying Monroe County citizen.

I'm Scared! I'm REALLY scared!

They can't be serious...can they? We'd like to see a "little sailing rental place" or something quiet in there? Are you kidding me? 3 MILLION DOLLARS! HELLO! Do they honestly think that someone is just going to step right up.....plop down 3 million bucks.....cash......and open a little loser sailboat rental place there? WOW! Forget it. That's ridiculous. What it looks like....is good old King's Pointe Marina.......(who?), cut a little "Sweetheart deal" with the infamous Gang of 3......and then "walked" on them.....leaving them holding the "Hickory House bag". That's....what really happened. The guy who was BEGGING to get off of that rat real estate.....must still be thanking his lucky stars and lighting candles every single day at the church. 3 MILLION DOLLARS.....of OUR money.....for that TOILET! Hey! Maybe Jimmy Buffett will buy it! He could call it something really catchy.....like....Margaritaville or something! Ya. That's the ticket! Maybe we can do a new "reality" show there called: "Million Dollar Listing.....Stock Island"!

iPads

I'm putting in an offer for the property. 12 iPads and 14 iPhones in exchange for the deed to the property. Once the transaction is complete we'll begin a new plan to move the Human Petting Zoo & Vagrant Daycare facility to this property. It will provide more entertainment opportunities for the bums than the proposed Easter Seals site. They'll be able to swim with the manatees, feed the pelicans and catch their own dinner from the docks.
