James 'Jim' Donald Schooley

James "Jim" Donald Schooley, 86, of Summerfield, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

Mr. Schooley was born in Houston, Texas, Aug. 26, 1925, where, at the age of 17, he joined the Navy, where he served for 23 years. His last duty assignment was on the USS Sea Lion APSS-314 when he retired in 1982. He then served as a Merchant Marine for 10 years, moving on to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department in Key West, Fla., again retiring in November 1992. James "Jim" was also a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Key West.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Schooley; his sons, Robert (Vicky) Schooley of Ocala and Danny (Tabitha) Schooley of Leesburg, Fla.; daughters, Sonia Lozier-Brasmer of Ocala and Michelle (Conway) Kelly of Crawfordville, Fla.; his grandchildren, including Kenneth (Morgen) Schooley, Bradley Schooley, Dylan Schooley, Brandy (Ian) Bare, Danny (Freddy) Kelly, Janessa Giannetto; and great-grandchildren, Peyton Schooley, Cameron Collins, Hunter Bare and Bailey Kelly.

Memorial services to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Sheriff's Substation at 3260 SE 80th St., Ocala, Fla.
