20 YEARS AGO

Steve Smith was named publisher of The Key West Citizen. He came to Key West from Cordele, Ga.

Actor Lloyd Bridges was named to head a national fundraising campaign for the Land and Sea Trust.

The single-family residence at 714 Simonton St. sold for a reported $165,000.

50 YEARS AGO

Airman Third Class Ernest W. Salis was assigned to Stewart Air Force Base in Tennessee. He was a graduate of Key West High School.

Luther Swafford was installed as chairman of the Key West Red Cross chapter at the annual dinner at the Sun and Sand Restaurant.

Glynn Archer Sr., chairman of the Monroe County School Board, gave diplomas to the 33 graduates of Marathon High School. This was the largest class to ever graduate from the school.

Rahner's Book Store, featuring books, stationery, office supplies and newspapers, was on Duval Street at the corner of Front Street.
