District: More male varsity athletes
Schools looking to boost female participation in accordance with federal law

Monroe County's high schools this year were not fully in line with federal law on gender equality in sports, as less than half of the varsity teams comprised girls.

Districtwide, female participation in varsity and junior varsity sports was disproportionate to the number of girls enrolled during the 2011-12 school year, according to the Florida Educational Equity Act repo...

Cronyism

This is a perfect example how friendships are put before children. Amber has brought a whole new meaning to the world cronyism to Key West High School. She should be ashamed. Not only is she continuing to tarnish her name but she is putting people in positions who are not respected by the public. This women is out of control and I hope someone on the board is willing to reel her in as Jesus seems as if he could care less.

This is only her first year, too!!

Amber is running amok at KWHS. She will NEVER be the principal her father was. She clearly plays favorites with her family and those children of well-known Key West families. She goes about changing rules to suit herself (i.e., homecoming court) and also made up the most ridiculous awards for some seniors. While the AD fiasco is yet another example of her ineptitude, there has yet to be any backlash for her "internal handling" of the destruction at the high school the week of graduation. Isn't anyone curious why Jara doesn't do anything to her? Think about people. Pretty much everyone knows why, including most of the students. Remember, Jara's wife doesn't live here. I guess he's afraid she's going to run her mouth if he tries to get rid of her. Both of them need to get out of the school system before they run it into the ground, which isn't a far stretch these days. Give her a few more years and you'll see it happen.

Ralph Henriquez

It is wrong what has been done to this gentlemen. He built a world class program at Key West which had a national following now to be removed by this principal because she felt like it. I can't believe the board allowed this to happen. Ralphie you made us proud and keep your head up because in the end winners always win and you are a winner. And as for the current baseball coach with the first losing season in KWHS history please concentrate on your team instead of being thrown out of the little league parks.

Speaking of athletics

I was interested in finding out a little more about Key West High School's new athletic director and I googled her name. I suggest you google her name and find out for yourselves. The name of the new athletic director who replaced Ralphie Henriquez is Neda Preston.

Sense

So Jara replaced Henriquez who has been involved with KWHS athletics for many, many years has been replaced by someone with hardly any experience managing athletics. Nice move.

Holy Jesus Jara

Just googled. Hope no one else googles. Holy frostbite Batman.

DUI

I just goggled her name and saw a DUI arrest. How in the world can a person who has never been a head coach of anything replace Mr. Ralphie Henriquez? Does no one have any shame. I sure hope the school board brings Jara to task on this one.

Doesn't matter, the star

Doesn't matter, the star kids, with fully involved parental backing, will find a way to rise to the top, no matter what, in the way it has always been. I guess the rest will never catch on.

To rise to the top, you need the correct resourses

Which in this case would be a professional baseball player with good communication skills, and the ability to teach and positivly motivate. I see those qualities in Henriquez. Raw talent helps , but the ability to correctly direct it is rare. The same can be said for a Principal but unfortunately Amber has none of those qualities in her appointed position. Living in the past and not recognizing the events around you will result in disaster, sort of like throwing up and then drinking more , but who would do that ?
