Boat-parking ordinance is still afloat
Commission sinks first version, but revisions are under way

For Tony Mendez, former soldier and retired Naval Air Station firefighter, paradise lies in the waters beyond his Fogarty Avenue home, and he reaches it in a 21-foot Seacraft boat.

When he returns with his children or grandchildren from trips to the Marquesas or Sand Key, he trailers the boat and parks it on the right of way outside his modest ranch home. It is well-kept....

A boat is a vehicle. If

A boat is a vehicle. If someone wants to park their vehicle in front of their house on city right of way, let them. If there is such an issue with it then start issuing parking permits city wide good for two vehicles per homeowner or lease-holder. Any more vehicles than that and the owners must pay for extra permits. Boating and boats are part of keys life. They are no an eyesore. They have always been here on the streets on trailers! Teri needs to MYOB along with *.*

They're an eyesore.

Outlaw 'em.

"Yaniz was furious."

This guy couldn't act appropriately if his life depended upon it. What an embarrassment he is!

that why you pay taxes

to have idiots like Teri Johnson and Cates act stupid..............

Sal Sal

Thank God there is such brilliant people looking out for us like you. How is your campaign going looser !!

How would you know? You don't live in Key West and you don't

pay taxes.

CLEARLY idiot

strikes again.

Nane calling gotminer Sally

Yo sally. Do mankind a favor. Round up all your Batista buddies ,take them to miami with you,and get a life or remove yourselves from the gene pool. You're not a nice person

if marinas were affordable

if marinas were affordable, then many of us could afford to put their boats in them. But they are not affordable for many of us @ a minimum of $275/mo for a 20' boat. Yes it is true we should not be parking in front of a neighbors house...Another problem is that with new sidewalks going in, it is almost impossible to even park your car, no less than a boat with a trailer, in the driveway without spilling onto the sidewalk. There is plenty of parking space at poinciana housing maybe that should be open for KW residents who have boats. All in all the city is making too many rules and being too intrusive into our lives...Back off city commission and do something important for once

Then you can't afford a boat.

Plain and simple. It's the same kind of argument that you might use saying "I can afford a car but I can't afford the insurance." It's all part of the cost of owning a boat.

Yea, well

if you have a car payment and didn't pay cash for your car, I guess you can't afford to own a car either.

CLEARLY..........

CLEARLY *.* needs an ENAMA.

If you can't spell, what makes you think that the people of

Monroe County would wish you to represent them?

Carpetbaggers?

When I moved here over a decade ago I noticed the boats parked in Driveways, in yards, and on right-of-ways. My first impression was "how nice, a town government that supports the rights of the people that live here". This is just another nail in the coffin to my understanding that just like politics, and the resulting government, "Money Talks".

Money

That's exactly right! It is all about money! They do not families in KW! That has been a known fact for a long time..They want people with money. Which will support the high end marinas...I guess they will be busing all the little worker bees in!! So sad what this island is turning into...All the politicians should pay a visit to St Augustine and take notes..They have preserved the historical parts, it is a lovely place and locals still live there!

Hmmm...........

Well, as I stated on facebook; it will add insult to injury for any boat owner who will now be required to pay to store or sell his or her boat, watch as the amphibious DUCK tours drive past their property with a 'boatload' of passengers. Yet another example of government overreach. I would expect this from Palm Beach or one of the more gentrified townships. Oh- in case you're asking, I do not own a boat, but- I am a USCG licensed 100 Ton Master. captain curtis william erling white

Hag

Since when has it been Teri Johnson's duty to ensure that marina owners are profitable? Her logic is nonsensical. Why doesn't she go ahead and make it illegal to have a kitchen in your home to ensure restaurants are profitable? Maybe we should ban all private vehicles to guaranty the taxi services are profitable.

Black Panther, the County Commission

did exactly that when they made it illegal to anchor within a mile of the City mooring fields. To increase profits . all boaters are considered second class Citizens whether on the water or land.
