Monroe County could not afford to keep Pigeon Key and was looking for some use for the island.

Key West was making plans to buy and protect the Key West Bight and to find the $15.7 million need to buy the 9 acres.

A man filed a federal lawsuit claiming police harassment. Records showed he was arrested more than 13 times in 10 years.

50 YEARS AGO

The Monroe County Commission heard proposals of what to do with Pigeon Key, ranging from a park to a crawfish hatchery.

The County Commission was also looking at ways to help the tax assessor reassess all the property in the county.

The Florida Keys Aqueduct Commission members' term automatically ended on July 1. The board members were appointed to office by the governor for six-year terms.
